Hi there,
I was diagnosed with epilepsy four months ago. Had two seizures in my sleep over a six week period and I've been having the dejavu stuff for 15 years.

I've been on tegratrol for three months and I"m getting over the annoying symptoms. And I've just been told that I can drive again.

All good.

Yesterday I had a super stressful day. Huge day from 7.30 am til my two year old went to bed. Had no break. I'm so stupid cause i promised myself I wouldnt allow myself to have stress cause I think this is why I had the two seizures to start with. Single mum working two jobs etc.

Anyway last night at midnight I woke up with the most intense pain - upper abdomen area. Severe. It was so severe I almost thought I needed to call an ambulance. Then I spent two hours on the loo and I kept feeliing like I was going to throw up but couldnt.

Today I have been soooo tired. And my hands all tingley. I thought maybe it was all the rum balls I ate (minust the rum in them) the past two days. I have hardly eaten any sugar the past three months but when i fall off the wagon I go off hard and I ate a lot of them! But now I'm wondering if this was some other weird type of seizure I had last night cause of the severe tiredness I had today.

Anyone else had this?

Rita,

Sorry, I can't help, but hang in there!! All the best and Merry Christmas!

Hi, and Welcome!

A few folks in here have something called "Abdominal Epilepsy." It is pretty rare, especially rare in adults. Odds are what you had was either the stomach flu (which is going around!) or the rum balls. If it happens again, I'd call my neuro and my PCP both.

If you want to learn more about abdominal epilepsy search on it here in the forum and you'll have lots to read.
- Click on "Epilepsy Forum" (upper LH side of page)
- Click on "Search" (upper RH side of page)
- Type in "Abdominal"
- Click on "Go"

A bunch of strings will pop up where somebody in there has talked about abdominal epilepsy.

In the meantime, you can also look here:

Feel better soon, okay?

Hi Rita --

I think in this case the simplest diagnosis is probably the right one: The Rum Balls Did It! Too much sugar can cause higher acid amounts in the stomach, which can in turn lead to stomach pain and diarrhea. Your stomach may be extra-sensitive because you've been so diligent at avoiding sugar over the last few months.

It's possible your fatigue and/or stomach issues could affect the absorption of the Tegretol, and lower your seizure threshold, so do your best to get back on track. I hope you feel better today, and have very happy healthy holidays!

Many times intestinal distress will be the CAUSE of your seizures.
