I saw a woman in K-Mart the other day with a tattooed medic alert on her outer wrist saying "epilepsy". I've often thought about something similar, not necessarily a medic alert, but something signifying my epilepsy. Does anyone have one? Or have plans for one? Share?

Interesting....... well, I guess she won't loss it.... nor take it off. That's a little to much commitment for me. I wore a medical alert bracelet for little until I realized, I am not a bracelet guy. Now, I just settle for an informational post-it in my wallet.

I'm sure some people will hate it on the principle of it being a label. I guess I saw my medical bracelet as the old ball and chain for epilepsy.
 
I'm not into tattoos, either, but I do wear a medic-alert bracelet as I have been in situations where 911 has been called and they needed info. I don't think of it as being a label, but a life saver for me. Plus it is easier to see than a post-it in someone's wallet in case of an emergency. So would a tattoo, but I can't bring myself to getting one of those on myself.
 
I have heard a good number of stories where the paramedics don't look for alert jewelry. I figure, they need to find out who I am at some point and will open my wallet. Luckily I mostly have SP's so this is what works for me. If I had more TC's, I might reconsider.

I do have a card in my wallet, also, that goes along with the MedicAlert bracelet, so, yes, at some point the medics will get the info they need.

And yes, you ARE lucky to have mostly SP seizures.
 
I've also seen people with the medic alert tattoos. The problem I see doing it with epilepsy is that seizures often change, some have even been known to go away and the info on a tattoo is permanent.

:agree: And, how does one know if the medics look at a tattoo and take it seriously, either?

Several times medics have been called when I had a TC seizure in public, they DID look at my medic-alert bracelet. One time they did rush me to the hospital because I was going status. So I guess it depends on how well the medics have been trained where one lives.
 
Paramedics have never looked at mine. which worrys me not only because of the seizures, but because it also states an allergy to morphine, which is anaphylactic. Usually the first pain med given via IV to someone is morphine...

I wouldnt get a tattoo that says it though. I am getting an epilepsy inspired tattoo though. Its my whole back done in characters and quotes from Alice in Wonderland
 
If I was going to get a tattoo for epilepsy I'd probably go with the purple ribbon on the inside of my wrist which wouldn't help too much because I want to get the autism ribbon on the other wrist.
