I have asked this question before. I put the wrong title on it.
What i am hoping for, is people with good results from tegratol 400. I have just been put on epilepsy meds, for the first time ever. All comments:ponder: are welcome. I have frontal lobe epilepsy. My nuroligest seems pretty shure this will fix me. Please let me know what i might expect.

I don't think you can say any drug or any dosage of a drug is good or bad. Everybody reacts differently to different drugs & different doses that I don't think one can make that kind of generalization.

I"m on 800mg of tegretol twice a day. I still have an average of 4 or 5 partial seizures a week. Is that bad? However it does stop me from having tonic/clonic seizures, is that good?

Realize that is just me. I'm sure everyone reacts differently.

:hello:

Welcome to CWE!

Everyone reacts to Anti-Epileptic Drugs differently,
so what works and did not work for others or the
reactions / side effects if applies on others, does not
necessarily mean it will affect / effect you.

As I have posted numerous times:

We are all unique and are like a snowflake, no
two of us are alike.

You can imagine the tremendous load a Neurologist
or Epileptologist must carry; for all medication(s)
are dealt with in a "trial and error" basis due to the
very nature that I had posted above in bold
emphasis. All of our chemistry and hematology
and so on ---> our make up in our bodies are all
differing from everyone; just to show how vast
and great the differences lies.

While from my own experience; Tegretol is on the
allergy list for me, but it does not necessarily mean
anything to you ---> for many have benefited from
Tegretol and Tegretol XR (or Tegretol Retard as it
is known in International Countries).

Good Luck and remember, it takes time, and it is
a slow process ---> always keep in mind; slow and
easy is the way to go (titration) and likewise;
everything is done in trial and error. It does take
a lot of patience, which can wear thin sometimes;
but hang in there!

Reply to Tegretol

Now my experience with tegretol XR which is time release worked great for me at first than i got what the doctors called immune so I had to increase my dosage I am now at maxium level allowed 1600 mg. Does it help yes i don't have seizures when I up n awake if i feel one coming on i take a phenobarbitol or a clonazapam or me n my husband have this relaxation techinque taught to us by a seizure specialist. I would die without my tegretol just make sure u get your liver levels checked, and you really shouldn't drink while taking this medicine i had 1/2 glass of wine for new years well needless to say i paid the price 6 tonic-clonic seizures that night. the best advice is get a notebook keep detailed information on how the meds make u feel if u feel they are working so forth and so on. My seizures are located in the front temporal lobe too, stinks huh. well I wish you the best of luck and if u every need to chat just hit me on the board i'm hear every day but just now getting the use of my hands back. GOOD LUCK N GOD BLESS YOU. YOU'LL BE IN OUR FAMILY PRAYERS. SINCERELY KIM

I've been taking Tegretol XR for years. With all the changes they've made to "better" drugs, the Tegretol has been the one that has kept me virtually seizure free (1 every 2 years). Yet, we are all different. I agree with keeping a journal, have a strong change in diet (gluten/soy/dairy free) and check your levels as Tegretol can be a pain.---LMT
