Does anybody know off hand if the drug Tegretol is addictive? I commenced in on Tuesday an since Tuesday I just feel different. Its like im high on something and much much happier. People say that my personality has completely changed Has anybody experienced this and is it only a long term side effect of the drug.

Hope everyone has am eggtastic day!!

It made me feel like crap..maybe tegratol is working for you that why feel different

Hi catlover,

I was very moody while on tegretol some days I was happy others day I had a temper for no reason. I hope you are able to stay happy and that the tegretol works great for you.
Wishing you only the best and May God Bless You!

Sue

Tegretol is one of those AEDs that is also used as a mood stabilizer for some. But for some, it can worsen their moods, even causing suicidal ideation, as can several other seizure meds. When I took Tegretol, I was depressed. However, when I took Lamictal, I DID feel "enlightened". Lamictal is another med that is used as a "mood stabilizer". But it didn't do a thing for my seizures. What works for one, doesn't necessarily work for everyone.

Also use it for nuralrizer.when first went on lamac I felt like my brain had been cleaned everything looked crisp I felt great sadly not to last for ever.
I know keppra you have rage but I do it awful I go ape for pathetic reason which seemed logical when got the dark temper then wears off and I think omg what have I said to everyone and realise was not logical but childish and stupid.I literally sit on my hands so don't thump anyone.
I never heard of anyone getting high from tegratol as I said it maybe working and that in itself make you happy

I don't think Tegretol is addictive. As mentioned, it can also be used in treating bipolar disorder, so that might explain, in part, the change in your mood/personality. It was the first AED drug I was tried on, some 20+ years ago. I don't remember much about it except that at higher doses, I had dizziness that resulted in my at-the-time neurologist changing medications. I hope it works for you.

I just felt one degree under all the time.i know people who on it for neuralgia I know can make them happy but pain like that you going feel high having pain relief but not sort of high you meaning if it did there be que waiting to take ith

Welcome to the rollercoaster of multi-purpose drugs ... tegratol, valpro and vimpat have all taken a toll on me in some way ... keppra had me out of my mind with rage and suicidal ideation within two weeks of starting that.
Bit of pot luck as to what each of us is going to get ... one can only hope it's good pot luck for you.

If you can catlover, stick with the tegretol -- often side effects are worse when you're still ramping up. But if you're feeling seriously down, please get in touch with your neuro.
