I swerved to miss this turtle in the road today. His/her head and legs were out and he was on his way to the other side when I passed over him.

He probably would have been OK, with only half a lane to go, but I turned around and moved him to the grass on the side of the road in the direction he was going.

There's not much traffic on this road, but I was glad I stopped. Another car had been approaching from the other direction so I had to stay in my lane.

When I reached him on foot, he was withdrawn and you could see he had peed, too. Probably scared out of his wits. He was about half the size of a soccer ball and covered in dried mud.

Ah, that is a happy ending. Good karma for you :)

I remember working with lady who one day came into work crying her eyes out. When we asked what was wrong, she sobbed that she saw a turtle in the road on her way to work and she was afraid someone would hit it. She couldn't risk stopping to move it because she was VERY pregnant and wobbly. You may have saved some other sensitive soul's conscience as well as the little turtle. :)

All apologies - I forgot I started this thread

That's a good story. The same has happened to me, minus the pregnancy of course. No time to stop, and I've passed them several times before and can only hope they made it across.

I don't wish anyone to get hurt but I imagine hitting a turtle could be hazardous to the driver, particularly at highway speeds.
