Went to see my PCP yesterday morning at 8a... by 9a they had me sent to ER. Blood tests and CT scan were "normal", they admitted me so I stayed over night and just finished an hour EEG (my hair feels fantastic) - guess this was the quickest way to see a neuro! I don't think I had any episodes during the hour though... getting discouraged, want to find an answer with this already.

Why did they send you to the ER, and then admit you, if everything was normal? What was their reasoning behind that?
I must say though, that is an awfully fast way to get a neurologist involved. :D

Keep your head up! Answers will come, so don't stress yourself by worrying about when they'll come. :)
And glad to hear you're okay!

Epilepsy - check.
Keppra - check. (Not sure on the dosage yet, twice a day...)
Can't drive for 6 months - check.

I don't even know.

If you're just starting Keppra, they'll probably start you on 500mg twice a day. But it depends on your body size, I have no idea how much you weigh or how tall you are, so it could be lower. They'll try to control it, most likely, with the lowest possible dose :)

The driving thing sucks, but with a good support system around you and a clever attitude towards finding alternatives, it shouldn't be too awful. :) I'm willing to bet most of us on CWE can't drive either, so we're all in the same boat together. :)

Trust me, you're gonna do just fine. :) Even if you're too in shock to realize it yet. :)

I think it may be based on my history and the fact I was having seizures while I was there.... heh. Blood and CT were normal. But I am not normal. It's been a fun ride. Staying here one more night.

Can't wait to see my bill.

:e:

So, who's gonna drive the boat?

Oh.. you know... some guy....

I am HOME after 2 1/2 days in the hospital.
Finally have a neuro - my EEG didn't show anything but he put me on Keppra, 500mg 2x a day and Lexapro for my anxiety. I have to call and schedule a 3-day EEG. Good news = I have meds and am actually feeling better. Bad news = I have no idea what kind of seizures they are or what triggers them. Just a big (little?) fall risk.

Still upset I can no longer drive. Which, I understand but still... and the answers begin!

Cheers!

Remember both drugs take some time to get in your system and start working. You may feel the effects right away, but two to four weeks for the full effects. So be patient. I don't drive because I feel unsafe. They did not take my license. But I hear ya on that. It stinks! :) glad you're on the road to recovery and home with your family. I bet those boys missed their mommy.

:agree:
Make yourself aware of the side effects of the medications and keep an eye out for them. They may be more evident when you are first starting and may subside when you get adjusted.

Good luck on your Journey to recovery.

Tom

Do not worry, I do not have a license, but would not want to drive even if i had one. You could hurt or kill someone and youself when haveing a seizure.

It takes a good month for meds to get in body.

Ugh... started the Lexapro this morning and feel like I'm experiencing morning sickness.

Lots of water... lots of water...

I am so thankful for this board. I can post on FB how I am feeling but I totally feel the "doh" stare through comments... I had someone tell me to "get over it" and that I am "weak" - sigh. If only I could pass my seizures on to them - I'd totally get over it!

correct about the water. try to take it semi easy also. You will get use to it, give it a while, just watch for the bad side effects.

I can totally relate to you about the FB comment!!! No one would even know where to start, but I guess I can't blame them since they have never been there! You would get a lot of "im praying for you" and that would be all since they wouldn't know what else to say! Sorry about losing your license. That is a hard thing when you are so used to being an independent person. I would give you a ride in a heartbeat if you lived near me!! I hated asking for rides when I needed them but found that people didn't mind at all.

I know there are a lot of people who do care, but a lot of people that have no idea, too. Bleh. At least I have my husband - he even took the grocery list and all three kids just now! I could get used to this.

:pfft: send this to them
