Hi, my name is Kristen. I just joined today and am soooooo excited to correspond with others who might offer some insight into coping with epilepsy. Thank you ALL for your support.

I am new to Dilantin. When I was first diagnoseed with seizure d/o I was taking 3800mg Neurontin/day. I lost my peripheral vision completely. ugh. Over the years I was reduced to 800mg/day. This seemed to be managing until 2006. I actually didn't realize I was having seizures. I would find that I had fallen to the floor, lost some time, or fell off the couch. I attributed it to working towards my Ph.D. Then I had a severe trauma in 2009 and this "episodes" slightly increased until last July when I began having grand mal seizures. I also have MDD, severe and have been on meds since 13 years old. I also have severe asthma-my doctor says I have the lungs of an 80 year-old woman- and I am 38. Nights are tough and although I sleep with 7 pillows and almost sitting upright, I still must use my Proventil inhaler 2-4 times a night. I have intermittent night sweats, but I have had this since being on the SSRI's and Neurontin. My med mix is:

Neurontil 400mg
Effor XR 150mg
Dilantin 300mg (100mg 3 times/day)
Proventil inhaler, as needed
Advair 250/50 (2 times per day)
Claritin-D ready tabs (1 per day)

All your posts have me wondering about meds side efects, oygen intake, neurological disorders, and night sweats??? My mother has Parkinson's disease and her autoomic system is shot due to the neurological meds. Maybe it is not one or the other, but the interaction between?

Look forward to hearing from you all.
