I have recently started my third medication, Neurontin along with Depakote and Carbatrol. I take so many medications due to break through seizures and have a Vagal Nerve Stimulator. I have complex partial to generalized with no warning what so ever.

I take (2) 500 mg Depakote, (1) 250 mg Depakote, (2) 100 mg Carbatrol, (3) 300mg Carbatrol, (2) 300 mg Neurontin. I have been on the Neurontin for about two months now. I feel drugged, very tired, don't do that well at work anymore even though it is a very easy two day a week job or so.

I get tired of people telling me I will get used to it. I have been on meds since I was 12 years old have tried many different ones and have a epileptologist who I really like. Thinking of stopping working altogether now that I'm on disability. Thanks, Jeanne

I've been on so many different meds through the years changing them because they weren't working or the side effects were too bad. I'd usually stay on the med for a few months but if I was still having problems with the side effects after that or couldn't handle the side effects in general then I'd ask my neuro to take me off of it.

Talk about it with your epileptologist and let him know what's going on and hopefully he'll do something about it.

Meds are fun aren't they!

Yes you can feel like slapping them with kipper when they say that..I did give up work 50%due to e.worse mistake I ever made.both my daughter and me had have it.Think that one over before give up.If you you uk then get advice from a disabilities group some can be very good with legal side.I wish I lied and carry on work taking sideward move but everything was black at the time could not see light at back of tunnel but years down the line I realise there was.
I felt so tired I got some motivil on net help me with cognitive The worse thing I ever did..Nac posted answer but I ignored it so yesterday thought I give it a go DONT do it I felt like crap and feels like brain trying do something it can't with migraine in distance.i am actually worried trying to give myself something I thought would take tiredness away and give me some oomph and because I got it on Amerzam I thought be ok. It is definatly is not
I am though using vit B12 patch see if helps time will tell been using it about 2weeks it is American and you have strict guidelines .i hope that not contra indicated.Had blood test sometime ago and it showed some red blood cells to big I don't know if e Meds can cause that I did not research it as I sick to death of everything being contra indicated but I will listen and take advice from others on here not so frightening and many people have tried before me..Everything in world contra indicated when have e I never know if it drug company covering arse or it for real

May ask your neuro about reducing the doses of the other meds slightly. Taking Carbatrol and Neurontin together tends to magnify their "sedative" side effects: drowsiness, confusion, and difficulty concentrating. Depakote probably contributes a bit as well.

Sometimes it can help to rearrange the dosing schedule as well so that the fatigue is more likely to kick in at night.

Thank you

Thanks for replies on meds and yes I want to slap people for saying I will get used to it. I will talk to my epileptologist this coming week see if I can lower something. So nice to not feel alone. Jeanne

Hi Jeanbean,

I've been on over 10 different meds and not a single one has stopped my seizures. When I was on Neurontin that drug caused my seizures to get worse where I would be out of it for 30 min. to 3 hrs. Then I saw on NBC Dateline how the drug is triggering seizures for people who have never had seizures in there life. The drug co. now has over
a $200 million lawsuit on them.
Tell your Epileptologist to do a DNA test on you that will show what drug is the best for you or if you are drug resistant like I am. Also you may want to have a sleep study done to see if you have a sleep disorder or if you are having seizures in your sleep. I have both absence and complex partial seizures and my neuro did a sleep study on me and found I was having seizures in my sleep about 2 hrs. before I woke up in the morning.
If you are interested try using the CBD oil (medical marijuana) that has really helped me a lot or you may want to try taking vimpat that also reduced my seizures a lot.
I wish you the best of luck and May God Bless You!

Sue

I know I just feel like a lump, the lights out in brain I wondering if all e Meds after a time cause brain damage of some kind damn if do damn if dont

Some are worst that others for making me tired. They seem to work on people differently. I tried Vimpat and it did nothing.
I was supposed to take a morning dose and a dose at midnight (of Depakote and Lamictal). I told my epileptolgist that if I took it in the morning that would be it. The stuff knocks me out for at least 3 hours. I wouldn't be able to do anything. So he said it's okay to take the 1st dose in the early afternoon. That way I can at least do something in the morning.
I take the stuff at night then I sleep well for three hours. When the drugs where off it's hard for me to stay asleep or get back to sleep once I have woken up.
This is about as stable as I've ever been. Much better than this time last year when I was taking the Keppra instead of the Lamictal.
I mostly have SPS now.
It's taken over 13 years now just to get to this point. It seems (for me anyway) that it's mostly trial and error.
I don't know how anyone can get used to it. I sure haven't.
It's very frustrating. It's tiring just to go through with all the crap year after year.

I discovered this week that e meds and yours and mine can often do lower B12 levels this not often picked up on blood tests but it should be red flag to doctor..If you in uk you bit stuffed it post code lottery as to if you get right treatment..Taking by mouth or sub lingual patch no good need injections...I got fight on at moment

I just had a vagal nerve stimulator replaced a few days ago after 10 years on the other one. This one is supposed to be more helpful can sense heart increase and send a zap to hopefully change the brain activity sooner maybe especially helpful with having no warning prior to seizures. Thanks, Jeanne

Keep us posted, I hope you feel better. :)

I using b12 with 3 4000 folic in patch form you get all of vitamin strangely enough I think it working but give it 2weeks
