Hi I am new to this site and am looking for some information. My daughter is 11 and has autism and anxiety disorder. She is high functioning and although very verbal cannot really express herself so alot of the time its just a guessing game with her. A few months ago she started this quick shaking of her head which I thought was some sort of tick she was developing. It is very quick and she will do it several times in a 1-2 minute period. It started out she only did it occasionally but over the last few weeks she has done it more and more. Last week while at physical therapy she did it for about 1 1/2 minutes then became very pale and said she didnt feel well although couldnt specify what didnt feel well. The therapist was concerned it was a type of seizure so the following day I took her to her doctor who referred her to a nuerologist so now I am just waiting for an appointment. I have been paying more attention since then and it seems like she is more tired lately and has not been wanting to play her pokemon game (if you knew her you would know this is very unusual as she is obsessed with pokemon and never is without her game). Her anxiety is also getting worse and her grades are dropping at school. So I was wondering if any of this sounds like it could be a partial seizure? Is it typical to get worse over time and to differ on a daily basis in frequency? Can it turn into another worse type of seizure if this is what is happening? Any info from anyone would be great. Thanks to everyone for taking the time to read this!

Hi, Sue,

It is so hard to see your child sick, and not be able to just make it all go away. I'm so sorry. <<<<<hugs>>>>>

See if your doc will call the neurologist's office and get you a quicker appointment. If your doc is very convincing, it can definitely happen.

Yes, seizure frequency and type can change day to day. I'll have weeks without one, then have several a day for months. And every day they are different types, though those types are off my typical seizure "menu."

I get anxious with my seizures, too. Sometimes all day before and after the seizure. I figure for me it is an aura (warning) before the seizures happen. There is also a type of simple partial temporal lobe seizure that has intense emotions, like fear, euphoria, etc. I get the fear seizures. I'm like a deer in headlights and I freeze - don't move, breathe, etc. Somebody in here described it as how you'd feel jumping off a building and you are half way down.

Sometimes uncontrolled seizures get worse over time, sometimes they don't. More often than not they do get worse over time. Sometimes this takes years, sometimes months. It can also lead to different types of seizures. Mine started as an adolescent and were pretty infrequent until my 40's. Then they started to skyrocket and become more frequent and serious in nature.

Hang in there until her appointment.
