How do you show your special someone you love them on Valentine's Day? I am spending the time sewing some really cute gowns for my mother who lives with me and needs total care. She loves gardening and circling in her seed catalogs so they are beautiful floral prints with lace trim. I found a pattern on the internet for free and they are quick and easy to make leaving lots of time for trimming them. They certainly are lovelier than those ugly generic hospital ones! I'll be glad to tell you where I found the pattern if any of you have a special person you love to sew for and who could use a hand sewn gown for spring. :rose:

Categorizing about 70 gigabytes of data on my hard drive while watching a movie. To my mind, it's far better than spending hundreds of dollars on a misunderstanding based on Chaucer's writings - especially when I could be showing my significant other that I care on a daily basis. ;) :D

taking and editing pics, and putting one of my bicycles up for sale.
when asking 2 grand for a bike it better have nice pics.

Inaara, what are you talking about with this Chaucer reference? I can't place it. And COurt that must be SOME bike!

Valentine was a Roman priest martyred during the reign of Claudius II. He was arrested and imprisoned upon being caught marrying Christian couples and otherwise aiding Christians who were at the time being persecuted by Claudius in Rome. Claudius took a liking to this prisoner -- until Valentinus tried to convert the Emperor -- whereupon this priest was condemned to death. He was beaten with clubs and stoned; when that didn't finish him, he was beheaded and buried outside the Flaminian Gate on 14 February, though the year is in dispute - sometime between 269 and 273.

Some claim the first recorded association of Valentine's Day with romantic love is in Parlement of Foules (1382) by Geoffrey Chaucer. Chaucer wrote:

For this was on seynt Volantynys day
Whan euery bryd comyth there to chese his make.

["For this was Saint Valentine's Day, when every bird cometh there to choose his mate."]

This poem was written to honor the first anniversary of the engagement of King Richard II of England to Anne of Bohemia. A treaty providing for a marriage was signed on May 2, 1381. Chaucer's Parliament of Foules is set in a fictional context of an old tradition, but in fact there was no such tradition before Chaucer.

I read a lot. Too much. It keeps me busy. *shrug*

And if I had a couple grand, I'd probably buy that bike, since I'm currently bike shopping, teehee.

Hmm... i put up with a drunk dad, a severely ticked off mum who had taken the day off work, had a massive argument with said drunk and then went to work lol :noevil:

I did have a rather nice chat on msn with a lad i (really!) like after work though :D

I celebrated New Year's Eve! (The Chinese New Year. We've just begun the Year of the Tiger.)

I'm year of the tiger! Hopefully thats good luck for me this year, lol.

Tiger people are sensitive, given to deep thinking, capable of great sympathy. They can be extremely short-tempered, however. Other people have great respect for them, but sometimes tiger people come into conflict with older people or those in authority. sometimes Tiger people cannot make up their minds, which can result in a poor, hasty decision or a sound decision arrived at too late. They are suspicious of others, but they are courageous and powerful. Tigers are most compatible with Horses, Dragons, and Dogs

Yup. definately sounds like me. Actually... it's exactly like me

Heart day

The Mister and I grilled steaks, and sat at the table and talked about the kids and grands. Our anniversary is 02/23, so we do our celebrating then. Actually he proposed to me on Valentines day! I had a glass of wine and he had a Warsteiner Dunkel. It has to be the 12 pack, because the sun can hit the six packs, and get warm. Hubby is a major romantic. He likes to make me a home made card off the computer, then say sweet sentimental things that bring out the tissues!

Hey Loopy! I'm a dragon, so I'm raising a pint to you in solidarity.

Haha! So if it's the year of the tiger and I was born in the year of the tiger, does that mean it'll be a good year? Beacuase the last few have sucked! :roflmao:
