What is this feeling?

Hi all,

I was diagnosed with epilespy 5 years ago after 3 night attacks in as many months. I was prescribed Tegretol Retard (1 morning 10:00am, 3 at night 20:30pm) and I've had no attacks since.

I wonder though if anyone can help answer what I have been feeling over the last 6 months. It happens about every 2-3 weeks early evening, any where between 18:00pm-21:00pm:
I come over nauseous than after about a minute I get a buzz then a strange distant feeling on the right/front side of my brain for about a minute and feel detached. This subsides, I'm fully aware but when I speak I make no sense, I feel I'm speaking correctly but people seem puzzled. The whole episode lasts about 15 minutes and I then feel very tired.

That sounds like some of my seizures.

Are you sure they're 15 minutes? I know I have trouble timing mine because I can never keep track or I get confused when trying to remember what time I started.

As a kid I thought my seizures were an hour or 2 but they were between 15 & 45 seconds.

Hi Martin, welcome to CWE!

What you describe sounds like a simple partial seizure (feeling of nausea and sensory detachment) followed by complex partial seizure (awareness, but impaired -- inability to speak properly). Worth mentioning to your neurologist. It may be a sign that your medication needs adjusting.

Thanks for your advice,
I'm going to try taking one of the evening tablets earlier say 5:00pm to spread the effect of slow release, then the other 2 at 20:30pm as usual! Only because it happens around 19:00-21:00.

I know that feeling, I get a tingling sensation on right side of head. I sometimes even vomit, when the nausea goes away I feel fine, but often exhausted. If I get up and start moving around, it feels like Im walking on water and the wave of nausea starts again. It last about an hour, but I nocited prior to the nausea, I get the detached feeling and or pounding heart and sometimes feel like a rubberband all wound up and ready to snap and a constant urge to stretch and or yawn? This pattern has been pretty consistant when it happens. People that are around me say, my eyes look like they're twirling and that i stare. My problem is I don't know which is the ending or beginning. I have learned that the actual seizure if any only last 2 to 5 minutes, the postictal can last minutes or even an hour. Sometimes I know something has happened and I'm at the end of it and sometimes I cant tell if its an aura? I have also found myself crying when I can't put my finger on whats wrong and I feel like peanut butter "spreaded out all over the place". But, I have yet to be diagnosed with seizures? The nausea is new to me too for about the last 3 months and I'm not taking any AED's. I only take metoprolol for pounding/palpatating heart. I am hoping to try the medicine "lamotrigine (spelling) aka lamictal" this weekend, I'll admit, I am scared to death!, but I oh so want to feel better and get on with enjoying my life.
