My doctor has never told me what kind of seizures I have. Before I have a seizure, I will have the usual aura, and will faint. I won't remember or feel myself hitting the floor, but I will be completely aware during the seizure. Only my body from waist up will move. The only way I can describe it is my upper body thrusting forward and backward. Then I will apparently be confused afterwards. My brother found me once right after I had the seizure, and he said he asked me if I was ok and all I did was look up at him with a confused expression. I don't remember that at all. I don't urinate or bite my tongue. Back when I was first put on meds 7 years ago, I didn't have my auras when I was stressed or before my period, they just happened at random times. Now I notice that they're more frequent and stronger during these times. Anybody have any idea? This is all just out of curiosity.

My wifes seizures tend to coincide with her cycle as well. Her blood sugar shifts drastically during that time period as well which is why we suspect hormones and blood sugar are he culprit. Do you have more joint pain around that time as well?

They sound like simple and complex partial seizures. The aura is the simple partial. The complex partial phase involves impaired awareness (though not full loss of consciousness), and can feature automatic behaviors (like thrusting motions, or movements of the mouth and hands) as well as cognitive confusion.

If your seizures are connected to hormonal changes at different points in your cycle, it's called catamenial epilepsy. High estrogen, low progesterone, or both play a role, since estrogen spikes can be a seizure trigger, whereas progesterone tends to keep estrogen levels in check. Yiu can read more about it here http://professionals.epilepsy.com/page/catamenial_patterns.html and here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catamenial_epilepsy as well in various threads here at CWE.

Freckleface,

As Nakamova said, they do sound like complex partial seizures. And if they're increasing around "that time of month", they could me catamenial seizures, therefore they could continue to get worse and you do need to inform your neurologist. Hormones can/do play a role in women who have epilepsy.
