Why is it when someone yawns you yawn too?

I'll bet you just yawned right now.
 
My husband and I have made a game out of this! I'm currently 'away from home' because of the seizures, so we say goodnight by video chat. Whoever makes the other yawn... wins.

And yes, I tried to fight it, but I yawned.
 
even reading the word "Yawn" makes me yawn, there, I just did it again.

But....I have bouts of constant yawning, it last for about an hour. It's usually after I have the unplugged feeling, like I'm melting away.
 
its really strange. i just yawned reading the word. tonight me and my family will all be in the room together and we will all be yawning! i think it must be contagious
