I finally had enough with this so called "friend" on FB.

Ever since the CT school shooting, he has been posting hundreds of images on his FB about Obama being stupid for getting more gun control, and listing all the facts about how its not the guns that kill people... its the people that kill people! How people should see that by taking away the guns is not going to control the shootings. To look at the "mental" state of the people who are doing the killings.

One thing i pointed out to him was that there could be millions of people walking around with a mental problem. How in the hell are we going to know what is going on with these people, without taking the time and money for testing to be done? That would take forever. In the meantime, we would allow guns to be out there for anyone to get their hands on and have another shooting occur, so more people can lose their lives?

I seriously was done seeing the images pop up every damn hour! Then he states he knows what those parents are going through that lost the children they revolved their lives around. :ponder:How can he? He has no children of his own, and he doesnt want children. How does he know how this going to change their lives? What their emotions are when they had to bury those kids? I just dont get how he can say all these things and think its ok to still have guns out there for more violence to go on, and more people have their life taken away.

I finally used the BLOCK feature! :) Aww... it felt good! :woot::roflmao:

In respect

".. One thing i pointed out to him was that there could be millions of people walking around with a mental problem. How in the hell are we going to know what is going on with these people, without taking the time and money for testing to be done? That would take forever..."

not every one with "mental problems" are prone to commit violence, commit violent acts, or will in their lifetime... and it is furthering the stigmatization of a whole population of folks in need, such as those with seizures, by furthering that mentality

many kill, using guns or other tools (including their own body), that have no "mental" problem diagnosed or to be...

i get that you'd love to have guns removed and i agree, certain guns should be banned from public access... but guns do not kill, the people who pull the triggers towards others do ... many who pull the triggers toward others, each and every day, are not mentally ill or have "mental problems"

so, yes... I agree... screening everyone is likely futile and would take forever but the truth is; if one wants an object, legal or not, one will obtain said object... you can't keep it away or off the streets...

we've learned that with prohibition and the drug war

My husband and I had a dussion similar to this the other day.

You can kill someone with almost anything out there not only a gun. You can use a knife, shovel, hammer, water, fire, etc....

So what are we going to do about that? Take all those things away and test EVERYONE to make sure they're sane enough to have these things before they can?

Sorry you and the dude are unable to find a common middle ground. Sometimes ya just have to agree to disagree and move on.

I think we very seriously lack gun control in this country.

That said, I'm mentally ill. I know many who are even more seriously mentally ill. Not one of us would ever consider killing someone and for Christ's sake not a school full of innocent children. And a lot of us have experienced violence against ourselves. In fact, the mentally ill are more often the victims than the criminals.

Most of you have taken note. It's one thing to live under the epilepsy stigma, but I'm living under the mentally ill stigma also.

Watch out. I'm like an alien wild animal.

with this friend of mine, he seems to think that its not about the guns, or whatever weapon is out there to kill someone with. he just kept posting things over and over about how he thinks no one should take away any guns, and its all about the people. Its the person who is killing the other people. And thats fine, he stated his opinion. But why the heck does he have to continuously post pictures, and post sayings on his FB for everyone to see over and over again. I dont have any issue with him letting others how he see's things. But when he is constantly doing this, it gets so annoying. I even asked him kindly to please stop posting these things. Its always popping up, and I was tired of hearing him complain about Obama or gun control. Thats all his FB is about. It was like he was doing this to start a argument with someone.

Everyone has their views on gun control.

For me, being a parent of three children ages 6-8, my opinion is to get more gun control. To get them out of the hands of all people. No matter if they have a mental issue or not. If there is no guns laying around, then its not as easy for anyone to pick one up, take it into any place, and start shooting people.

I can only imagine what those families are going through. I sat here thinking about what could they possibly be going through. knowing their child will never return home, their life will never be the same. I know for a fact I would be so out of it. I wouldnt be myself at all. I will admit, I dont know how I would go on with life without my children.

I just got so tired of seeing his opinions come up one after another... even when I told him I wasnt hear to fight or get things heated up... he then kept asking me questions like...."Are you watching all that news shit on tv"? ... Or "You're just like all the other mental people out there who gets sucked up by the media".

Now for me, thats not how friends talk to each other. I can see he's having some issues with this, but I wasnt there to start anything or be told how I should view things.

My prayer for all is that we can get a good control on this violence and have it stop. How this is going to happen, I have no clue. All I know is that I dont want to hear about another shooting that kills people.

I think blocking your friend was probably the best choice, once politics like this start, even among close friends it is bound to get ugly.

As for mental illness. I can honestly say i've struggled with depression, anxiety and the works. But I couldn't harm someone just for the sake of it. I think people lack the real understanding of a big issue. This isn't going to relate to any gun violence, it relates to something that needs to be done. If someone is on the brink and life has no more silver linings, where do they turn? What effective programs are in place for someone who really just needs help. That is a huge issue, heck in might even subside if more people just listened to each other and genuinely cared.

You couldn't walk into a school (or anywhere else) and kill 26 people inside 10 minutes or so using a hammer or a knife.

Yeah i tried pointing that out to him, but he just didnt get it. I didnt want to get into it deeper with him, so I let things be. Oh well.
