My son is now engaged!

:)

He proposed to her (we had it all set up on
"Black Friday" so when we were up at 3 AM,
since my mom gave me some money to get
some clothing for us during the bargain times
as she would rather "sleep") ... and here his
soon-to-be fiancee having not a clue! While
this was all an "act" (while he over-did it) he
was crankier than the "Grinch" - *laughing*.

So I had "enough" of him, and sent them "both"
home, but his girl having not a clue what was
going on, was sulking! She wanted to STAY!

While my son with his over-done crankiness;
yak-yak-yak, mumble-grumble, whine, gripe,
yadda, yadda, yadda ... *laughing* they took
off on their bikes heading home, while I took
the money that he earned from painting his
dad's house with one hand (he still has a broken
arm from a very bad accident) and went over
to the other store to buy the engagement ring.

:evil2:

Then I came home, and his girl was sitting there
:::: sulking ::::
And of course my son, still in his "Royal Attitude"
about me sending them HOME! (Still being a set-up)
I made him put my bicycle in my room, and there
he got the ring, and he ran off his mouth and went
into the bathroom and "I" was standing there in the
Living Room while his - "soon-to-be" proposed girl-
friend was still giving me that "eye" and sulking!

*laughing*

She had NOT a clue what was coming!

:)

So once my son came out, all dressed up, sharp as
a tack, she had no idea what this was all about! He
knelt before her, and told her, how much he loved
her and asked her "would you marry me?" and opened
the ring ...

She was stunned!

*laughing*

It took her a long time for her to catch her breath!
As this totally caught her off-guard! (Got to LOVE IT!)
She was lost for words, she didn't know if she was
to laugh, cry, or what - then finally said "YES!" and
still sat there completely stunned!

I was still standing there, now laughing and my son
was now laughing ... then after about an hour when
the "shock wave" waned off, she then realized this
all was a "set-up"!

:)

She is never going to forget what happened on Black
Friday at 5:30 AM! My son was watching the clock as
he wanted it to be on the "dot"!

No date set, (and no, it's not a shot-gun), everyone
has been expecting this to happen for some time now.

Even now, she still can't get over how all this was planned,
and typically that both son and his mother were both
involved in it! *laughing* (Well, someone had to get
the ring without her knowing it)

What's so cute is, it's almost like every 5 to 10 seconds
she's looking at that ring ... and I've made the habit of
telling her "don't look, it's still attached to your finger!"

*laughing*

:)

CONGRATS TO STEVE AND KIM:woot::woot:

Sharon,
Black Friday will always have a special place in your hearts now. Truly special.
Best wishes to your son and his girl and to you as well.

Thanks everyone! My mom and I had planned this when Kim was taking her nap. It was really worth it. Mom thinks I overdid the acting part on my behalf but I do not think so.

But it went perfect! I am hoping that the wedding will just be as perfect as well. My mom even told Kim a reminder about the bridal bouquet, to make sure there is no ceiling fan above you and if there is, make sure it is off first!

:roflmao:

Both my dad and mom talks about that one a lot, how her flowers went everywhere and they counted the one who had the biggest bouquet as the Winner! Kim really enjoyed hearing this story, both from my mom and my dad. Even my dad's wife was laughing really hard as Kim was. This should be a major rule for all brides!

We would like our wedding to be in the Spring or Summer as we are outdoor-type people. It will be awhile before any wedding date is set.
We want as much light outside as possible, as we like dancing and everyone to have fun as much as we will have fun. But again I thank you and so does Kim. And mom is right, Kim does look at her ring all the time!

:)

My mom also wanted me to tell everyone the Wedding colors:

We have selected Black and Lavender (light pastel purple) for me (tux), and the Bride is white and my mom has already obtained her dress and it will have lavender (pastel purple roses) as both my mom and grandma are expert seamstress and sewers. The bridesmaids will be in lavender (pastel purple). My mom may make the wedding cake as she has designed wedding cakes for a close friend of hers who now has remarried and lives out in Washington and she would used to call mom when she was overloaded with orders and would be backed up. I have seen my mom's work. Kim is a little nervous about mom designing the cake, but I have assured her that mom does a wonderful job, but when she does the cake, you have to stay out of the way! And now Kim wants to take pictures of her when she does make the cake so she can have it in our wedding album. Mom has been drawing some sketches and now Kim is lost as which one she wants! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

The thing is I have not seen the dress and I won't! It's bad luck for me but I know from what Kim said, it was so beautiful that it was amazing how mom got it. I never knew mom had it, she bought it off on sale and was going to sell it on eBay after making some revisions to it, "Priced to Sell". Mom did her own dress where it is so unique. Kim saw the photo of before and after so she is excited, but I am left wondering and curious. So help me!

Wedding Colors and plus .... Julia Childs is needed!

I love their selection of their colors for the
wedding - Lavender (pastel purple) - for
the Bridesmaids - and Black and Pastel
Purple for the men.

Both of them had this in mind for some
time and had their agreement on this and
I must add, they have good taste, however,
my son doesn't want the "men" out-do him!
He wants the be the only one in "Tux", while
the other men in suits.

I thought it was funny when Kim told me
she wanted me in Pastel Purple, and I had
to tell her that the Groom's parents and Bride's
Parents do not wear the colors of the Groom
and Bride - it's bad luck! And the Bride's mother
and the Groom's mother cannot wear white either!
It's bad luck to the "Bride". But the Bride and Groom's
father can wear a white shirt and traditionally a black
or dark brown tie.

Since my ex-husband had remarried, they want
his wife involved, but I told them I will have to walk
alone but before my ex - since I was the one who
had bore the son (Groom) and then my ex and his
wife can follow behind me and be seated to the left
of me (that's the new order), even when the Photo-
graphy is done, the Groom is first, then his mother
to the right, and his father to the left with his step-
mother to the left of his father. (For the solo shot)

However for the Bride - because both of her parents
are divorced and neither one are remarried, her
mother will be on the right of her and her father will
be on the left - but their boyfriend and girlfriend can
not be in the wedding march nor in the photography
shoot. But they can be in a photography shoot in
a casual photography by other individuals (non-
professional).

Kim learned a lot from me, because I'm a Professional
Photographer and she's seen a lot of my work,
including professional shots, as well as other people's
weddings.

As for the cake, they have not decided yet which one
to choose from - since it is not going to be a large
wedding. But once they choose which one they want,
I will scan the sketch and post it; they are still mulling
over it! *laughing* I hate (I mean it) overdone cakes!

And Steve was correct, I did bake one batch of cookies,
Sugar cookies, but let them design it and I had to admit
they both were like little kids! Giggling and laughing, and
making a mess! But of course they couldn't wait until
it got out of the oven! *laughing*

=================

Here's the fun part!

I put this "BRIDE" to test last night, because I wasn't
feeling too well with this cold (but I'm feeling better
now) ... I had her to make dinner, and since she's never
ever handled a whole chicken before although she has
watched me - I handed it to her and said "YOU ARE
MAKING DINNER"....

That was her reaction! She looked at me like I've got to
be joking here! I reminded her - she was going to be a
wife, and money is going to be an issue, and you are not
always going to be able to afford a "pre-cut" chicken, you
are going to have to learn to handle a whole chicken.

She just stood there and looked at that thing! And said:
"I AM NOT GOING TO TOUCH THIS THING!"

All she did was poke at it! *laughing*

My own son handled it (he can cook) and while she was
going to put the whole thing into the pan, I told her:
"Just a minute now, what about the package that's inside?
The giblets?"

Her response?

"I AM NOT STICKING MY HAND IN THERE!"

My son came along and handled it himself and she nearly
gagged! I just *sighed* and tried hard not to laugh.

I think I need to look for some old Julia Child's videos,
I can picture Julia:

"You take this scrawny old chicken here, and pull out
this giblets, and put it aside, for gravy..."

And showing people how to do it ...

:)

I think that would be X-Rated Video to her...

Congratulations Steve & Kim. :woot:

Brain,

Your last post (the part about cooking), totally cracked me up :roflmao:

Tell Kim, she is not alone! I had no idea there was anything inside of a whole bird that I needed to pull out! :ponder:

I mean, I'll go inside the chicken if I have to (with gloves of course). But I'd rather put back a box of cookies or something else in my grocery cart, and splurge and let Perdue or somebody else do the dirty work for me! :agree:

As a teenager, I once baked a cake with cornmeal instead of flour. Having no idea what I'd done, I was so proud of it. I decorated it and gave it to my mom for her birthday! :noevil: God love her, she choked down almost a whole piece...never letting on what I'd done. She didn't tell me the truth until much later. :roflmao::paperbag:

My best to Steve and Kim! -Julie
