Hey guys

So I got my date in for a video EEG it's next month
It can be up to 5 days I'm scared I don't know what to expect
I'm getting it coz I get these other weird feelings which I think is simple parcial sezures. I know I will bring puzzles books in coz I get it a lot when I have tostudy at anything. Does anyone know what they do in a long stay EEG?

Take whatever you want. I had one a few months ago, and I brought work, games, books, and my laptop. I even brought snacks and stuff, but I'm a vegan so it's understandably impossible to get what you want in a hospital.

It'll be tough, you'll be stuck in a single room for five days. You'll have 32 electrodes stuck to your head the whole time and possibly a couple inserted under your skin, which may hurt like hell afterward. If they trigger seizures you'll be really really tired.

A good thing to do is try and get them to note what you say or do after a seizure. The whole experience is very enlightening.

It can get really boring. I took my iPad, books, movies, anything that I thought would keep me entertained. Of course you are going to get bored and stir crazy regardless, so don't feel bad. Your movement will be greatly restricted. I had 53 probes stuck on my head, and they were all connected to a small computer. I had to stay in the bed as that was were the camera was pointed. Also, had to have the nurse take me to the bathroom. (in case you have a seizure). Not super fun, but not the worse thing that has happened either. If they get enough info from you before five days, they might let you go early!

do they take u off ur meds? stop u sleeping etc?

yep and yep. well, most places anyway. five days is a fairly short stay for a unit (mine was 17) so they may not take you all the way off your meds, but likely ramp them down.
good luck girl :)

Don't be scared you gotta look at the good side of this. This could show the Dr's a way to control you. I had one done early this year and now I am having surgery later this month to hopefully get me controlled after all these years. The doctors sound very possitive about the outcome.
Good luck to you, you will be bored but hopefully the outcome is good.

Knowledge is power, you'll be better off when you're more informed. I've just finished a 2 week EEG where I was constantly video monitored and I had electrodes stuck to my head, which connected to a little box in a shoulder bag, which was then connected via an extension cord to the wall. I only left that room twice in 14 days to go on an exercise bike for half an hour, but I didn't get as bored as I expected. I had lots of visitors, and I took my laptop, my textbooks and my phone in. There were so many cleaners, techs, doctors, and visitors in and out of my room all the time I got tired lol.

Best of luck and keep us posted on the results. You'll be okay x

HOB -

As already mentioned take plenty of things to keep you entertained as it may get boring.
The drs may want to sleep deprive you to help bring on seizures.

When I had my VEEG I was in hospital for 5 nights & only time I got of my chair was to go to the toilet (the room I was in had an ensuite).

I found the days were busy with specialists coming in to check on me or do tests eg - neurologists/epiologist, neuropsychs, students so no time to get bored. I sleep deprived myself (only sleep about 3 or 4 hours a night) so I found the nights got boring & felt like they dragged.

Good luck with the VEEG.

Good luck! I am doing mine now - I will admit it's pretty boring since I haven't been able to leave the room. I'm going to be doing the exercise bike tomorrow morning most likely and sleep deprive again tonight. I am going a bit stir crazy... but for the most part it's just sitting around waiting for something to happen.
