i had a small seizure yesterday. lost conciousness and twitched a little. i started my menstral today.. this has happened b4. a seizure right b4 or sometime during my mentral cycle. is this common? for your seizure threshold to lower at that time of the month???

Estrogen plays a role in body chemistry, so that often when the levels shift it can trigger seizures in people with lower seizure thresholds. And some people have been treated with progesterone as a way to control their seizures.

Yes this is actually more common then people think. :) Yet another joy to consider when being a woman.

This is when Rebecca's tonic clonic seizures occur most of the time.

I know that during my time of the month that it can get worse. I don't know if the neurologist would consider it catamenial epilepsy- but I know for sure that it makes things worse. Even with my Tachycardia (heart condition) that that time of the month aggrivates it. Sometimes not.

Most people, during that time, have lots of chemical changes etc and it can cause trouble for certin medical conditions.

Take care,
Crystal

yes definatly. When I went to the epilepsy seminar in november there was an epileptologist there who spoke about this, she specialises in it infact...

estrogen triggers seizures....

This is a patter I have ntoiced in myself. I am currently on my mensural cycle and this morning I almost blacked out... had dizzyness, light headed... couldnt feel my body...

It passed.. but v weird.
