I had my first neuro appointment in a LONG time on Thursday. He put me on Keppra 1000mg twice a day, and kept the Lamictal the same as I had been (175mg twice a day).

Holy wow, this stuff is intoxicating!! I could barely stand without looking drunk, so I left work. I slept literally all day. I woke up at 9pm just to eat, then went back to bed for another 9 hours. I'm dialing it back to 500mg because at least there I can function.

Anyone else have insane itching? There's no rash, nothing indicative of an allergic reaction. I'm just super itchy.

So yeah, that's my first 3 days on Keppra.

I was on Keppra but my neurologist started me off on a lower dose & slowly ramped up the dose.

At first the side effects went away after a few days but when the dose was raised to 1,000mg a day then I got the same side-effects you'd mentioned plus an abundance of anger. I even lost a few friends because the anger was so intense.

Started Keppra last July. Started on a Tuesday with 1000mg /day. By the first weekend I had the same issues. Spent the first entire weekend crying itching and sleeping. Lost 20+ lbs fast. Could not hardly eat. That Monday called dr about itching. She said if no rash was nothing for me to be worry about. My legs were covered with bruises from itching. Started in August wrkg off Dilantin I had been on for 30 yrs and I am now up to 1500 mg / day generic Keppra. No more itching. I don't sleep all the time but I'm VERY depressed and when I am awake I feel as though I do not have any energy to do anything. I have tried the B vitamins that they say are suppose to help with the since of apathy. But have not noticed that they really help. Controls seizures but the quality of life stinks.

I was put on the first dose at 1000mg if I recall correctly (although I'm obese so that could be a reason), and I didn't have many side effects just tired and memory loss. My doctor said the fatigue and memory loss may go away within a month (did some). Of course, the seizures continued and had it increased then had more problems. They continued, he put me on 3000mg and it continued and so finally he could do nothing else with keppra. He put me on lamictal, and I had no rashes or anything just less energy and memory problems. It could be an interaction between each other. I was put on Lamictal, and been seizure free since which was like August.

I started having problems, where I would get dizzy and lose memory and become confused. I thought it was seizures, but I suppose it was just side effects. That was when I was on 2000mg, and then he lowered it to 1000mg then the side effects stopped mostly. I'll probably be taken off completely in July.

The side effects could go away with time, but I recommend you talk to your neurologist and see what they think. For some people, the side effects of medication doesn't go away, and so may try another drug. If your doctor doesn't really care, then I would recommend seeing another one like an epileptologist. You should be asking your doctor these questions. For people with epilepsy, it can be a few years to life... You should have the best doctor that's willing to listen and try to help you to the best of their ability. Only time will tell if they do go away.
