My 5 year old son has been off meds for almost 2 months (valproic acid). We feel he is acting different. A little more emotional, and also having sleeping issues. He will whine and cry throughout the night, be somewhat responsive. Will whine and say 'ow, ow, ow'. We will ask him whats wrong, if its his throat, its his head, his back... he will say yes to all sometimes. In the morning he will not remember a thing. Could this be him still coming off his meds, or could this be a form of a seizure he is having? He has an eeg coming up so will bring this up for sure.

thoughts?

Hi texasdontholdem, welcome to CWE!

Valproate isn't associated with long-lasting withdrawal side effects, so most likely something else is going on. What kinds of seizures was your son having before he was put on the med?

Best,
Nakamova
