absence seizures and epilim

Hi everyone, i am new to this forum as my daughter who is 5 has been diagnosed with Absence seizure epilepsy with urinary incontinence on each seizure episode. She is on 4ml epilim AM and 4ml Epilim PM, she is not yet upto her maximum dosage. Her school teachers have told me she is falling behind in her work and don't see any improvement in her seizures or incontinence, i have told them it will take a while to work as she has only been on medication for 3 weeks and keep telling me she has lack of concentration and we have to tell her the information again, again i have told them this is due to epilepsy, the epilepsy nurse has had a meeting with the school and has also been given a care plan..it feels like there is an enormous amount of pressure on me to get her better or i have to explain why it isnt working yet...i have made another appointment with my GP, but even with all the information i have given..i still feel like they are blaming me or my daughterfor this, i know they wont be but it is how it feels, i just dont know what to do now...also how long does epilim take to work? and anybody had any side effects?

Your help or advice is much appreciated :)
 
Hi mummyof3, welcome!

It's got to be tough to see your daughter struggle -- from the seizures, from the meds. It sounds like you are doing everything right though, communicating with the school and with her doctors. They school should be made to understand that the medication isn't at full-strength yet, and that until then they need be patient with your daughter. After the med is fully-ramped-up then an evaluation can be made of the medication's effectiveness.

How is your daughter sleeping? Sometimes meds can effect sleep and make any cognitive issues worse. Are there any other apparent side effects from the Epilim?
