I was wondering if anyone here could offer me advice on how to tell my 4 year old daughter about my epilepsy?
Id like to give a little bit of back story first, if I could. I feel like this might shed some light on my situation.
On December 22 of 2011 I had my first seizure. well, I thought it was my first seizure. It actually was not my first seizure, it was my first tonic clonic. What happened was I got my daughter up at 6:30 that morning to get her ready for daycare. I got up to go to the bathroom and thats when I had my aura. ( kind of embarrasing) I woke up on the couch and my daughter was playing on the floor. My dad told me what happened after I came to. Apparently my daughter started looking for me and she found me laying on the bathroom floor. She tried to wake me up but couldnt. She went and found my Dad and told him " Mommy is laying on the floor throwing up blood" (I wasnt literally throwing up blood. I bit my tongue up pretty bad and it was mixing with the saliva and was foamy) So, my Dad followed her into the bathroom and he tried to wake me up and when I was awake he helped me to the couch. This pretty much sums it up. I have had a talk with my daughter and told her that she did the right thing. That getting her papaw was the right thing to do and that I am very proud of her for making that decision on her own. I just dont know where to go from here. I know Ive got to talk to her about epilepsy and seizures and what we should do if no one else is around but I was wondering if anyone here has had that talk with their kids and if there was any advice on how to tell her about this so it doesnt scare the bejeesus out of her. It really really affected her to find me on the floor that one time and I guess....Im just looking for an honest but gentle way to tell her about this.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
