Are six 100 mg Tegretol XR pills just as good as one 400 mg and one 200 mg pills? I have a bunch of 100 mg pills to get rid of now that I have lowered my dose by 200 mg a day.

Yup, just so long as the dosage of mg. adds up to what is prescribed. You just cannot break the XR pills in half.

Don't know about the XR versions, but according to my neuro there is a slight difference between having many pills versus fewer for the same dose. The many pills have more surface area and are absorbed differently. I'm not sure I understand the reasoning behind it exactly, and I certainly have issues with a lot of the stuff my neuro says -- so take this dose of info with a grain of salt. I think you would only notice if you were extremely sensitive to miniscule dosing variations. And it should be even less of an issue with the XR version since it's supposed to keep the blood levels stable.
