After a TC (Grand Mal) are others wiped out as me?

Hey all,

I have TC seizures 3 to 5 times a year, which when compared to a lot of folks isn't nothing.

But mine last 5 to 7 minutes of convulsing and after it, the rest of the day I'm asleep, I sleep most of the next day, my calves burn like hell and I'm really weak and because I bite my tongue hard it hurts a ton and in general I feel like I got hit by a truck. I had a TC about 21 hours ago and I feel like poo. My memory is shot to ribbons, I can't piece the last few days together and in no way can dunction.
Is there something I should be doing? Do others shrug these off and recover in minutes or hours?

I am a big 28 year old guy and when these happen I'm kind of turned into a weak helpless little thing for a day or 2...

And at this time, I want to say to any e her, NY of you that have daily or weekly TC deizures, you're my heroes, you're true superheroes because no one could understand the exgausting beat down we go through in them...

I do not know anyone who recovers from a TC in a short time. I only have partials, no TC's, and I can take a day or 2 for my brain to come back to normal and sometimes I do not feel right until after I have my next seizure.

There is no way I could recover in a few minuets or hours, pretty good description for me, I find it hard to even hold a cup for awhile. Wish I could say it gets easier or you could shrug it of.

When I've had tonic clonic seizures it has takin me at least 2 days if not longer to get back to normal. I'm exhausted along with a rotten headache and my body aches. The worst was when I was on Neurontin and that put me into absence status seizures where I was out of it for 30 min. to 3 hrs. that was a nightmare. I wish you only the best and May God Bless You!

I have mainly partials but just had my first "real" seizures last month (2 in a three hour time frame) and it took me nearly a week to feel normal again. The first few days I felt exhausted and sore like you describe, and also felt as though my brain was foggy. Days 5 and 6 were better, and then on day 7 I finally felt like I had energy (mentally and physically) again.

I'm new to this but it seems this is a normal experience.

My longest T/C (that I know of) was maybe 20 seconds. I followed that up with SLEEPING ALLL DAY.... I'd never been so exhausted or had all those muscles in so much pain. Day two was OK and day three was back to normal. I cant imagine what others are going through and am thankful for having such a minor problem in comparison.

When I last had a tonic clonic seizure in October it took me 4 days to start feeling better, that tonic clonic was a real nasty huge one too. Mum took me to a&e not because of the seizure but because just before the seizure I had a booming that felt like it was in my ears but was actually in my head which once I had the seizure it went. I haven't met anybody who recovers from tonic clonics fast.

Depending on how bad or long the seizure was, simple partial to tonic clonic, depends on how long it will take me to get going again.

I had a simple partial this afternoon, it wasn't very bad, but I slept for about 4 hours after it. I have a feeling I'll be sleeping a good bit tomorrow. I've had tonic clonics that I've slept for days after.

You can't just 'recover' from a seizure minutes after you have it.

Sleep is important to recover from T/C, there is times I'm well aware my Daughter has not had enough sleep after her seizure activity and she gets total grump. We do make sure there is nil to minimal demands placed on her, as she recovers.

She gets that look like she's been hit by a truck........... has an expression of total confusion and I always give her pain relief when she is with it and alert.

I do think she does get a headache, Id rather give her pain relief than not... just in case.. as I don't know what she is exactly feeling at times.

Then, life has to keep going and my fingers are always crossed for no more seizures..
I hate what it does very much.
