Since, I have been diagnosed, I do not drink alcohol and have only ever been a social drinker prior to that. However, I am going to a big family reunion next weekend and would like to have a couple of drinks. I would be interested to know your thoughts on this as I am really a little concerned about the effects whilst I am on 800mg Tegretol per day.

when i drunk on tegretol i got sick and drunk after 1 drink! so i stopped drinking and wont do it anymore.

hey Sandie,
I've been on Tedgretol since diagnosed. The neurolgist then told me no alcohol. I've had a few drinks here and there but thats all. I really haven't really drank since I was 18. I know that doesn't really answer your question but that is my experience.

I'm on 1000mg a day, before the seizures was your typical girl weekend vodka drinker lol now I only have a few pints here and there not often and water in between and im cool with it get drunk quicker but think that's the fact I hardly drink now all professionals say no drink whether you can or not don't they lol so really case of trying it were all different!! :-)

Since you don't know how you're going to feel, be conservative until you get a better sense of how the alcohol will affect you. Drink a small amount, drink slowly, make sure you've got food in your stomach, and drink plenty of water too. To the extent that you can, be as healthy as possible overall -- eat and drink in a balanced fashion, sleep properly, avoid stress, etc...

i was told i can drink, but only small amounts as i could feel more affected than usual. i've been taking tegretol since i was diagnosed and have only ever drank on special occasions and know to stop after only a couple of drinks

Yep im the same,my neuro has no problem with me having a few pints,im on 1200mg of Tegretol.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I think I am just going to avoid it. I am still stabling out and don't want anything to mess with my head. I would have only had maybe one or two glasses of wine but the problem is that I already feel hungover a lot of the time and don't really want to risk it. Better to test the theory at home I think, rather than in a crowd of people.
