Almost seizure free thanks to Keppra

Now that i have been on keppra for 2 months my seizures have stopped..almost. I have only had 3 partial, spaced out in this time frame. With my doctors appointment in a few days. Does anyone believe that increasing the dasage may stop the seizures altogether? I am hoping so. Suggestions on what i may share with my doc?...hope to hear...thanks in advance.

I would

simply write down how you have felt during the last 2 months. What have you noticed? Emotional changes/swings? Seizure changes of course. Hunger changes? Anything else that you can think of....especially any odd feelings that you may have felt.

Whether or not it makes sense to increase your dosage will depend upon how much you are currently taking and how your body is metabolizing it. There is an upper limit in addition to the lower limit for a therapeutic dose. At the upper limits, AEDs become toxic to the system. Your doc will need to evaluate what your blood syrum levels are IMO.

My doc started me on a lower dose for the first few months last year. I saw an immediate improvement...but still had a few seizures, When I went back the first time, he checked my blood and said he would like to increase it and the drugs is working well. He said I am still on the lower side but he would increase if the blood work shows that it goes any lower, but he is conservative about the dosage. He changed me last month to the Keppra XR. It is great, you only take it once at night and is time released...much steadier flow of med.

I wish you th e best in getting your seizures under complete control with Keppra.
That's one med I'm allergic to and I hope you have complete control with it.

That is great to hear you have been so successful in your seizure control. Keppra has changed my life as well. I also take it with Tegretol XR and Propranolol and my seizures have been life long. I took carbamazepine at 13 for a few years then stopped since it made me so sleepy in school. Then started up treatment again at 23, now almost 26. Keppra has made my smaller complex partials go away for the most part, from 10 down to 0-1 a day, and these are about 20-30sec long. My longer CPs which are more severe have been controlled by keppra but every once in a while they come back but only 1 a month compared to 3 a month.. kinda complicated when they vary in length! Hehe.
Anyways, the Tegretol XR controls my seizures pretty well but I would rather not be on anything if possible. But for right now the most important thing is seizure control.

Thanks for sharing that. At one time i took tegretal. I had a bad reation. It is very interesting how our own bodies work so differently. I am somewhat up in the air about the appointment i have this week. This will be the second time i see this epilepticologist.. I do not think i am spelling that correctly? I am not sure what to hear? I hope to corosponde the info.
