Well when I said I had a good night of reading to do...

So here is just a quick intro for other to get a feel of me.

This afternoon when I first happened on the forum I said in my profile that I had my first seizure lately. Some reading, a couple of phone calls, some more reading and I think I could summarize things like this:

As a young child I had some small staring spells, they were on and off and I managed to go around them with social engineering ;-))

They more or less went away for a long time, I believe I might have happen to canalise them into creative spells. It would be into accordance with neurofeedback training.

I can spot a couple of periods in my life where stress, frustration and other factors might have brought them back still has staring spells but of the middle of the phrase type.

Lately, ironically since I moved near the neurological institute and Great Ormond Street Children Hospital in London in 2005, I have been under much more complex stresses. Life has not been exactly simple.

So it seems that all that, and probably many unhealthy nourishment habits, have build-up to full scale tonic-clonic seizures. The best description I had of how they start is I yell like if I was loosing my connexion to self. It is vaguely mirrored by confused memories.

You will find me looking around for sometime yet, hope the young Neurolgist will be ready for the ride when he calls for my first serious appointment at the Epilepsy clinic... ;-)

In the mean time I will be particularly interested in NeuroFeedback experiences with adults.

As an aside, if anyone as difficulties with French to English, or the reverse, translation of information I'll be happy to help.

Cheers,

Philippe

hmm I might need to change my alias to StillAround...

Hi Philippe, welcome to the forum. :hello:

It's pretty common for people new to a dx of epilepsy to discover for the first time that there are many types of seizures and that they were likely experiencing some form of simple partial seizures for years.

My wife has had excellent results with EEG neurofeedback and I highly recommend it to anyone.

Welcome, Phillipe, again. Glad you have done such extensive research.
Hope everything pulls together for you quickly.

Bernard: I have been checking in my area for EEG Feedback and either insurances won't pay or nothing close enough for public transit, sigh!! I am very interested in this as I can tell it has helped so many people in so many ways.

You would think with all the modern technology all the scans and EEG's would show something in ALL people with epilepsy, however, I have read many time over that MANY people check out "normal" on tests, yet still get diagnosed - correctly or incorrectly by medical personnel.

So glad you and Stacy are here for all of us, again thanks.

Just Passing: I hope that you have better advantage to locating the EEG Feedback in your area and payment.

Many insurance companies do cover Biofeedback, so if you doctor can write a referral for that, you can submit it to your insurance to see if they will cover it. Our neurologist at USC said their experience is that the insurance companies understand Biofeedback. Neurofeedback is EEG Biofeedback.

Also, there is some indication that a licensed mental health practitioner which includes neurofeedback when combined with psychotherapy is covered. If you do some digging you might surprised how the wording matters.

I do not expect it to be a big issue if I can get a medical recommendation for it. I am back in Canada since March and health coverage is easier than in the US. And, the complementary health package I have is fairly opened as long as practitioner are in a professional association.

As Robin did point out, NeuroFeedback is "just" Biofeedback with an EEG. I know that some more exotic Post-traumatic Stress therapy is covered around here.

That make me think of something, I will go start a new thread.

Cheers,
