Speber may know what I am alluding to here.

I have a pretty awesome audio system. I built it back in the late 80's and it still the quality of components that are competitive with today products.
When I built my sattelite speakers (tweeter/midrange combo), I used Eton hexacomb 6.5" and for the tweeters I used Morel MDT-33's.

About 10 years later I wanted to build another pair for creating a surround sound system. (I already have a dual isobaric sub that I built back then.) I have been trying to find some of the Morel's for years and years now but have had no luck. Everyone that I have communicated with, in the USA, has claimed that they are out and not made anymore. Well, since my wife and I are going to Hong Kong (really Kowloon), I wrote to Morel in Hong Kong (really located in Kowloon). GUESS WHAT? He personally wrote me back and said that they DO have them in stock!!!

He gave me his office address in Kowloon and told me to go see him personally to purchase them!!!

THIS GUY IS THE PRESIDENT OF MOREL LTD. IN HONG KONG!!!

I cannot wait! I cannot sleep!!! On top of being able to get some speakers that I have been looking for for over 15 years, I will be meeting and speaking with the President of Morel in Hong Kong!!!!

I do not know if anyone knows what I am talking about but maybe Speber does.

:woot:

Sounds cool. I don't suppose he sent you a ticket for the airfare? :paperbag:

I suppose you'll take some pics so we can enjoy your trip vicariously?

*chuckle* Glad to hear your good news. :) Now please do try to get some sleep before your big trip.... :) You'll need the rest...

Ooooo,

this sounds like FUNNNN........can I come, too?

Just make sure you get enough SLEEP.......:clap:

Awesome man!...

Love to see pics of the speakers you built too!

Can't say I'm up on speaker manufacturers as well as you BUT I do know the difference between good audio components and GREAT audio components......
....and it's got to be a blast to be able to meet the maker.

It's akin to meeting Les Paul (or any other big name instrument manufacturer) in the musician realm.....or meeting Steve Jobs to buy your iMac, right?

I bet he has an awesome 'room' there as well with many speakers to hear!

Too cool dude!

No, he did not spare me any money for the tickets. Sorry. :-) But, I will be there anyway for a family gathering.

The satellites are not too much to look at, just in a well made 1" custom wood with rounded curves enclosure, but what comes out of them is a another story. I had an electro-mechanical engineer friend test them for me when I built them. I focus alot more on true reproduction, less on thd and more on tim, less on power and more on flat line acoustics, balance of the ques, etc., etc. I did have my dual isobaric woofer box custom built though. It has a countersunk, sliding glass top with ball and claw legs. It was custom stained with dark oak and is pretty awesome. I will try to get some pics of that.

My system is Soundcraftsman Power-4 17, Soundcraftsman Control-3 17, an ADC Soundshaper Digital EQ, MTX Soundcraftsman Tuner, Sony Dolby S-NR Quartz Lock 3 Head Analog Tape deck, Sony Pulse D/A A/D Converter DAT deck, a Technics DCC RS-DC10 and a few rinky dink cd players. Much of it is not even made anymore, like the Soundcraftsman stuff. Soundcraftsman the high power Class A and B stuff.

Any way, I will post a picture some pictures of my sub box and a few of the satellites on my next post. :-)

All of this is not $10,000 stuff but it is the very top of the line that can be afforded at that price. One of these days I am going to try to convince my electro-mech friend to sell me his Soundcraftsman Pro-Power 10 and his top of the line Soundcraftsman Pre-amp.

I have an idea ..... (Uh Oh!)

Ummm

:ponder:

Do you think you could STUFF Speber in
one of your suitcases?

:D

I'm sure he won't mind and he'd get to
travel, and you could carry him on board
and toss him up in the luggage rack up
there overhead ...

(How's that sound Speber?)

Well ... at least - the thought counts!

;)

HAVE A BLAST on your trip!
:)

True reproduction

getting that true reproduction quality is probably much tougher than any altered sound - have a great time

Here are a few parts of my system, the sub is the most impressive part.

I am going to get the second set of the tweeters in Hong Kong.

4 more days until I get on the plane!

Tomorrow on the plane, Saturday meeting the leader of Morel and getting my tweeters.

Yes, it is like meeting Les Paul for those guitarist out there.

No, he did not send a ticket, drat. But, my wife's company has, about 90%, decided to send her to Shanghai, straight from Hong Kong and have been kind enough to include my ticket with her same flight. We do have to pay the fee for changing the ticket. We had the initial ticket, on that day, to come back to the US. Instead, now, it will be a few days later, after we spend our time in ShangHai. We will bounce back to Hong Kong, and from there back home. She will be dealing with factory people so I will be by myself. It will be time for me to test what I know of Mandarin. I have been assured by my wife, some Taiwanese friends, and several others, that the Chinese will not care if they cannot understand me, although they probably will be able to figure it, as they have had so many tourists come through, that have not even tried, already. And, my wife and Taiwanese friends will love the fact that I am at least trying!

Sorry Meetz, maybe next time. :hi5:

As far as Speber, Brain, I think Speber may put us over the weight limit! :ponder: :roflmao:(No offence Speber)

I will try to get pictures, Bernard, as I plan on getting a good Digital SLR camera a few days before and it would be a great picture for the first trip that I have the camera on. But, you do know that my wife will have to be the first one to have a picture taken on it. ;) I will have to get some judgement, from Crazy Monkey, as to how good they are. (Not necessarily the quality of character, the way the picture was taken as I am not a "photographer" yet, if you know what I mean) But, instead, the quality of the resolution and such.

And, Buckeyefan, that is so absolutely true, and, no offense to anybody, but it only really matters to some of us that are really picky about reproduction quality, and accuracy. To sound like you were right next to the musician, in the studio, when they were recording it. That is something that is reallllllllllly important to me. I do not like muffled, or shrill, echoing, etc., reproduction. It crawls up my spine.

Wo zai Xiang Gong, xian zi. I am in Hong Kong now. The flight is always a pain but at least there no upset children, etc. It was, actually, a pretty good flight, just long.

The Morel leader was not there, he must have had something big to do at the time. I did get my speakers though, through an official dealer, without a license. At this guy's shop, most of the time, a person needs a business license to purchase them but he made so that I was special and did not need one. They are heavy, for sure. They might make us pay a overweight charge.

I cannot wait until we get home and I can install them and the complete the system!

Have fun with the installation, I bet you
won't even need to read the manual!

;)

PS: I wonder how many folks are drooling??
