Hi everyone,

I was searching the internet for the millionth time looking for answers and info when I came across this site. I read a few stories and in particular the lady who has 2 daughters with E. I also have 2 girls with E. My 16 year old daughter Danielle was diagnosed at age 6 with temperal lobe seizures and in June this year my 6 year old daughter Cerys was also diagnosed. We are devasted. Its been a tough few months and the doctors believe it could be an immune system problem. I would really appreciate any info or advice.

Well, One bright side is that the the sisterly love will be that much stronger between them despite the age difference. I am actually jealous of my sister because she doesnt have grand mal seizures (she may have undiagnosed petit mals) and I remember the days when I didnt.

Have you looked into it being a diet issue? such as gluten intolerance or some other intolerance. I have heard on here from a member that when something like this happens in a family (like mine) where there is a strong occurance of members in the family with disorders that it is usually a life style cause. Such as the diet or allergy. it could also be genetic, but have you gotten them tested for hypoglycemia or diabetes? what about celiac?
 
I am still new to this and can't offer much knowledge, but I will be interested to hear what you find along the way, if you don't mind keeping us posted. When my daughter had her first TC the only thing I knew about epilepsy was the traditional grand mal seizures but I am finding more and more that I think there has been a history, not just with my daughter but with myself and her brother possibly of having more subtle signs. Darn. Somewhere in here I posted a link to a study of genetic epilepsy. But I can't find it. One of the benefits was a free genetic profile to see if you have the genetic markers for epilepsy. They are trying to identify more of the genetic markers, in addition to the several already identified.

There are numerous possible causes for the seizure disorders that fall under the umbrella term of epilepsy - genetics, environment, diet, possibly even vaccines, etc. The good news is that an epilepsy diagnosis isn't the end of the world. There are many treatment options available and most people with epilepsy lead normal lives.

There is a ton of good information contained in the nooks and crannies of this site. I'd suggest looking through the list of the best forum threads as a good place to start browsing.
