Just wanted to introduce myself. I live in Sanger, CA (teeeeny town in Central CA) and was diagnosed 3 yrs. ago with "generalized epilepsy, it's no big deal" (that was my neurologist who said that). After going round the bend with him, I switched about six months ago and finally got a descriptive diagnosis from an epileptologist of Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy. I also have t/cs that go along with the myoclonic jerks (lovely).

I am having a hard time right now, because after 3 yrs. of testing/changing meds, changing my diet, cutting out activities/stress/whatever and turning into a vampire vic from all of the blood tests, I have just been informed that my condition as it stands is about as good as I can expect it to get. Apparently meds/diet/exercise will not control my JME. It came as quite a blow, especially as I was also told that I really should not be working because of the stress. I'm pretty bummed and everyone that knows has been "poor thing"ing me to death, which I hate so I've stopped telling people.

Anyway, sorry for the drag. This looks like a good website (sorry, I've lurked while waiting to be approved ;P) and everyone looks really supportive and nice.

:dontknow:

Welcome craftygurl!

Hiya Craftygurl

I have uncontrolled absence seizures and have done since I was 10, I expect them on a daily basis, the neurologists seem to have given up finding a med mix that works for me, it appears I have medication resistant seizures. Like you, I think I am at a point of "this is about as good as its gonna get". I try to keep my self as destressed as possible but it is not always easy when you work in a busy office, I also have plenty of other triggers that I have to watch out for.

Anyway, welcome to the site, I am sure you will make many friends here

Take care

The Crazy Monkey

Thanks to all

for your warm welcomes :yippee:

I appreciate all of your encouragement. I really like the CQ's jokes. They are great for getting rid of that all-day depression that comes sometimes. This site has a lot of good info too. :woot:

See y'all on the flip side!

Hi Craftygurl - Welcome to CWE
Glad you decided to join us.
My grandparents lived in Denair, where my dad grew up and went to a one room schoolhouse. We travelled there a few times each year. I loved it. Not sure where you are in relationship to Turlock, and Modesto, but I have fond memories of the Central Valley.
We live in SoCA, near Pasadena..home of the Rose Parade. Isn't our state great... such diversity.

Sorry to hear that you are not finding a control for your seizures, but hopefully we can provide you with more to consider that doctors aren't willing to suggest.

Slz, Ca

Hi, craftygurl,
I am from San Lorenzo, Ca, which is north of you. I was born in Oakland, and I grew up in Slz.
I now live in Austin Tx.
I have had absence seizures all my life, but I work full time and have started school again.
I also have asthma, with the same trigger as my seizures; perfume. Especially anything that smells like cedar, which is everything.
Have fun with this site.
Bitch, kibbutz, hug, share, or whatever. We are one big happy family.:woot:

Hi Crafty! Welcome to CWE. :) I'm in SoCal....Hemet to be exact. :) Tiny town....but at one time, it had more money in it's banks than Palm Springs. (Or at least that's what they tell the occasional tourist...) I have tonic clonics and used to have petite mals when I was teen. Check out the alternative treatments thread. I use a combo of vitamin supplements and my meds to control my seizures.

Hi craftygurl, welcome to the forum. :hello:

In spite of what your epi told you, I believe there is always opportunity to improve your situation. What diet(s) have you tried? Are you on a regimented sleep schedule? Have you been tested for sleep apnea? Have you tried CBT/neurobehavioral therapy or EEG neurofeedback?

:)
