Basically i am 18 years of age and i experienced my first seizure when i was around 8 playing football and was booted at the back of the head. I have had quite a lot of head injury like a brick thrown to my head but lets not go off topic

Anyway i am wanting to know what type of epilepsy i have, what could be causing it and how i can most effectively keep it away so it doesn't interfere with my life

First of all i have had about 5 seizures. They consist of me staring into space and then falling onto the floor and having a fit. I then wake up and sometimes i feel alright and others i feel really drowsy. I really want to get some information about it as i am starting to look for careers now and need to possibly think what i might do for the rest of my life ?

Any help would be fantastic

Also any advice on how i could get info from my doctor/gp

First off, Id like to say welcome to CWE! :)

By the way you explain your seizures, it sounds like youre having grand mal seizures. I have had epilepsy my whole life, and in the past Ive had complex partial seizures, and grand mal seizures. Im 30 years old now, and this year, instead of having those, I experienced simple partial seizures. If I were you, I would go to your primary care dr, and tell them whats going on. Tell them you would like for them to referr you to a neurologist. Once they referr you, that will allow you to get your foot into the door, and you can explain what youre experiencing to the dr that deals with seizures. From there, they will probably want to do some testing, like an MRI, EEG, etc.

I googled some websites that explains in better details about different seizures.

Here is one for you to go over and give you a better idea about what you may be experiencing.

Hi Shreevey, welcome!

If you haven't already, see a doctor to discuss treatment options. There's a risk that uncontrolled seizures can get worse over time -- start happening more frequently or becoming more intense.

It can help to keep a journal where you write down everything you can remember about your seizures, as well as any other info that might help you figure out seizure triggers or patterns. (Triggers are things like fatigue, alcohol, food sensitivities, flashing lights, etc.). The journal will be helpful to you and your doctor.

Best,
Nakamova

Just what others have said - talk to your doctor. No one here can/will diagnose this for you. TBI (traumatic brain injury) has a way of not manifesting symptoms until later in life. There is a good chance that my seizures were caused from brain insults received 20-30 years earlier.

Get it controlled early.
