I so ignorant about subject I should know but if anyone bad as me.I read and watched baby having ssz all baby did was put her arms up.Apparently babies who put arms bore head above had one of the signs of e.can find it on British epilepsy forum that on fb.very scientific experiment.you would be totally unaware but after it pointed out you see it..friend of mine her baby do that but not going tell her as yet i because may grow out of it or it get worse and go doctors I wait another year if I notice I will mention it.sorry about spelling grammar so bad tonight lost my magnifer
 
The type of seizure you describe sounds like it could be an "infantile spasm" type of seizure, which a baby can grow out of. Could also be a tonic seizure, which can be associated with brief loss of awareness. Both infantile spasms and tonic seizures cause the arms to go up above the head.
 
There is also a reflex called the Moro/startle reflex that is present in all healthy newborns. It involves spreading and unspreading the arms and could look like a spasm. But I'm assuming that's not what is happening with the baby you are talking about. I did also see an article (just the headline though) yesterday stating that infantile spasms are not diagnosed promptly in 50% of cases, and delayed treatment can have devastating effects. If you know a baby who might be having seizures, I would definitely recommend looking into it right away!
 
If you think that a friend's baby might be having this type of seizure - infantile spasms - you should say something immediately!!! Although the seizures appear to be small, they have absolutely devastating effects on a baby's development. I am facebook friends with a number of families whose babies had IS and it is an absolutely heartbreaking and devastating type of epilepsy.

Babies can grow out of this WITH TREATMENT that stops the seizures. Without treatment (and unfortunately in many cases with treatment as well) cognition and development are permanently impacted. Please reach out to your friend and have her see a doctor ASAP
