Hi everyone,

For the past week, I've been sick with what feels like a combination of a cold and the flu. I'm beginning to feel better, but a couple of things that seem to linger are dizziness and nausea (especially when standing or walking). It's the same feeling I had when I first started taking Keppra last year. I haven't had any side effects from my medicine in 11 months, so I'm thinking maybe I'm feeling this now because of my lowered immune system? Any thoughts? Thanks.

It is normal for the cold/flu to make one feel run-down, and giving a person feelings of fogginess, dizziness, headachy, lightheaded, nauseous, etc. So if these are the similar Keppra side effects, then there may be no worsening of Keppra side effects at all and you're experiencing the effects of just plain being sick. Beginning to feel better doesn't necessarily mean these symptoms will improve right away; give it time and go easy on yourself and don't push yourself to do things you may not be up to doing as being ill can sometimes lower a person's seizure threshold.

Thanks masterjen. It's a little hard to explain, but this dizziness is different from the dizziness I've had in the past with the flu. It alternates between feeling like I can't maintain proper balance while standing and feeling like I could pass out. I haven't been sick in about 7 years, so maybe I've just kind of "forgotten" what it entails...I will take your advice and take it easy. Thanks again!

AED Side Effects Stronger When Person Ill?

In1,
I have been taking Keppra for over 10 years and the only time that I ever have had any kind of strange feelings was when I was prescribed a new med for fluid in my lungs in 2013! I know that people who I have known have had feelings like you describe when they have been feeling very nauseous.
If you don't start feeling better soon, you may want ask a physician whether you need to do something additional to help yourself shake this illness!
Are you able to keep down fluids and foods? Not being able to keep these down could be making you weaker and weaker and feeling worse.

Hello!
I haven't had any vomiting, but I also haven't had much of an appetite for the past few days. I'm starting to eat little by little. I have been drinking a lot of fluids...well, water anyway. With this illness, I also had a major migraine for a day and a half. It started off with sensitivity to light, my usual headache on the left side, and other symptoms. The headache went away but the other symptoms were still there, then came the dizziness and nausea. Maybe my migraines are intertwining as they see fit. I use a cold cloth over my eyes for temporary relief, which works. My neuro also prescribed Imitrex, so if still bad I'll try that. As always, thanks for your input!
