I'm having some anxiety issues and those issues cause me to have grand mal siezures. I just want to know what would be best to suggest to my doctor because when I bring it up it seems like he doesn't want to give me anything for my anxiety but rather raise my dilantin

Your doctor needs to pay attention to your concerns. If you don't want to raise your Dilantin level he should respect that, and at least explain why he has any reservations about prescribing an anti-anxiety drug.

Ativan is an add-on medication that can help with anxiety (as well as with seizures), though it's not meant for long-term daily use. Klonopin is another med used similarly.

There are also meds like Gabapentin and Pregabalin that are prescribed for both seizures and anxiety.

Thank you guys for your feed back. I will defnitely talked to my doctor about these things.

I take Xanax for anxiety as needed every 4 hrs. Sometimes I go thru it more than others. The good thing about Xanax is that out of most anti anxiety meds it will act the quickest, so you can wait the longest to see if you are really going to need it. Hope that helps. :)

I take beta-blockers for a heart condition and these days I've been trying to bring the dosage down. My doc has okayed me taking it up when needed. For me, they're magic for anxiety. My psych also adjusts my seroquel when I'm anxious. I'm not able to take xanax or Ativan, but I find my current meds work way better for me than those ones did in the past.

I take Quetiapine (seroquel), Clonazepam (Klonopin) and Pregabalin for anxiety (the latter two for seizure control along with Tegretol).

It is important, too, to prepare yourself mentally - look for distractions, take small steps at a time, rest when you need to but keep busy with things you enjoy doing.
Don't aim too high, keep your expectations realistic :)
