Hello. :hello:
I was wondering has anyone bitten their tongue during a partial seizure?
I ask because there are a few occasions when I wake up with a bloody bitten tongue but I've never had a t/c while I am awake. I have suspected nocturnal t/c's in the pass but I brushed it off since I've never had one during the day time.
My body didn't feel like I got hit by bus this time so that's why I think it's a partial but I never bite my tongue when I'm awake even during partial.. :ponder:
Is this even possible? Experience anyone?
Thanks. :)

I've had nocturnal T/C seizures and have bitten my tongue during the seizure. And the rest of me doesn't always feel as tho I was hit by a bus, either. I know I had a nocturnal seizure because I had bitten my tongue or by the way my body was positioned..... kind of lopsided.
So, IMO, it does sound like a nocturnal seizure. Some folks have only nocturnal TC seizures.

There is another type of generalized seizure called a tonic seizure, which is one of my nocturnal seizure types. Sometimes after a tonic I have significant after-effects that the next day and other times not so maybe some of these are t/c's. I wear a dentist made (and neurologist approved) night guard on my teeth to protect them and it also helps keep my tongue from drifting to the side and getting caught under my teeth. It is very tightly fit to my bottom teeth and takes a lot of prying to get it off in the morning so could never come off during my sleep. There have been times when my tongue has slightly drifted to the side and is sore on one side but has never been bloody.

Thanks, and that's interesting..
There have been times (including the last) when I go to sleep with my sheets perfectly tucked and I wake up to them all over the place. It wouldn't surprise me. I brought it up with my neuro but she never really addressed it. I guess she won't until I admit myself to a VEEG.

The mouth guard is a smart idea. Unfortunately, I have to wear a retainer so that doesn't work. And you do have a point about the post-ictal phrase bring different seizure by seizure.

I'm not sure if I've ever had a nocturnal seizure, I sleep alone so there's on one there to tell me. If my cats could talk they would let me know though. There have been times when I've been laying on the couch in the afternoon and will have a seizure. Most of the time I'm sleeping while I'm on the couch in the afternoon so my husband doesn't know if I was awake when it started happening or not. He'll usually notice that I'm having the seizure because what I'm doing or I'll realize that I've had it because I'll have a very bad headache.

During some of my seizures, complex partials (I very rarely have TCs) I've gnawed my cheeks and tongue. I don't think it's ever been bloody but it hurts like crazy, especially when I brush my teeth or eat something.

Many times I'll be having a simple partial and go right into a complex partial. Other times I'll just start right out with the partial. I have a VNS, Vagus Nerve Simulator, and if I know I'm having a simple partial and will use it and it will stop me from going into a stronger seizure. If I don't know the stronger seizure is coming on then there's nothing I can do to stop it.

Thanks for the reply. And yeah some of my bites aren't bloody(but bloody more often than not) but yeah it still HURTS. I had to cancel my dentist appointment the other day because of this. (I had to beg them to not charge me a cancellation fee :paperbag:)
