I had a miserable day and I am glad it is drawing to an end.

Around 2:15pm I had a tonic-clonic and when I woke up I was bleeding as though I had my period but it was very heavy and there was intense cramping. I put off going to the hospital as I am also on the autism spectrum and hospitals are traumatizing for me. I ended up seeing my accessibility counsellor at school for a regular meeting and she made me go to the hospital and came with me.

Long story short the hospital was a less than pleasant experience and I was told I have a uterine infection and sent home with antibiotics.

Now, here is my question - I have had 2 tonic clonics since getting home and after each one there is significantly more bleeding and the cramping is worse. This doesn't happen with my period so I am wondering what the deal is with that. I will email my neurologist as well but I guess I am just a bit concerned and wondering if any of you have this happen with periods or anything?

hmmm....is there any way you could have been pregnant? If so this may have been a miscarriage, which would make sense with the many tonic-clonics, because miscarriages flood your body with intense amounts of hormones to terminate the pregnancy.

This would explain the large amount of bleeding and cramping as well as what could have spiked the seizures.

Also if you have ovarian cysts *like Moi* It is possible that they had rupture during the first tonic-clonic *I am not sure if ALL your muscles cramp and seize during a clonic or just select few, though it does feel like it*

This would also explain the large amounts of bleeding, cramping and also the infection as if they were infected before they ruptured that would make everything else infected too. The pain and trauma *yes it is traumatic to your body even tho it doesnt feel as painful as it could be* could have triggered the other two tonics.

I'm really new to seizures, but i'm really good at puzzles like this.

Infection is one of things that can trigger a seizure, so it's possible that you had the uterine infection starting first and the seizures were a result. And, some of the AED meds can affect bleeding too. The pain and bleeding also sound like what can happen with fibroids. You should call your doctor to tell them what's going on, and ask more questions -- if there's a lot of bleeding there can be issues with dehydration and anemia too.

See your Gynecologist. I had that happen once and it turned out I had Endometreosis. It is treatable with proper meds. I used to take Vitamin E for it.

Good Luck.

See your gyno or at least call them, ASAP. Infections, can trigger seizures. As can medications. Also, don't be surprised if he/she does an exam to see if you are/were pregnant. Heavy bleeding and cramping following a seizure are unusual.

I do

have to agree with all of the above. I know you're not going to enjoy the visit to the gynecologist, but there's really not a way around it. I'm going through something similar at the moment, so I know it's not any fun.

I have had something similar a few times when I have had a tonic clonic and been on my period. My cycle has been messed up for years, and there has been an infection off and on. It's not an easy thing to deal with.

take the antibiotics, drink some cranberry juice, drink plenty of other fluids and eat a balanced diet. It will be al right, but it's going to take some effort......

Thanks everyone!

I did see a gyno yesterday and had a full pelvic done. I have an infection. They put me on antibiotics which I had an allergic reaction to and then I went back today and I was put on new antibiotics. One of them, Cefixime, interacts with my tegretol and can increase my tegretol levels. It also says that 10% of people allergic to penicillin will react to it as well which scares me since I am allergic to it too. I am scared every time I get a new med. Especially one that interacts with my seizure meds...

Call the

gynecologist back, and ask to be put on an antibiotic that is in a totally different class of antibiotic. Hopefully you will get over that infection very quickly......

That is hard because I am allergic to sulfa, penicillin, and the "mycin"'s. Now I am on Cefixime and Doxycycline. Tegretol also makes the Doxycycline less effective.

Go easy on yourself -- rest, fluids, easy breathing, etc. -- anything to help the infection move on, and keep the stress down. Even if the Doxycycline isn't working at full strength it may do the trick. Give it a chance.

Fingers crossed for you,
Nakamova

WOW! Thought I was the only person allergic to that many antibiotics! Hope you get better soon, add some vitamin C tablets as well, they help your immune system.

I had a reaction to the new antibiotics today too. Just spent another 6 hours in the ER today. Had 2 seizures while I wsa there too...ick.

Wow! I am sure sortry that you are going through all this. I have endometriosis and had a total hysterectomy 2 yrs ago. TOTAL relief. It was SO painful. My thoughts and prayers are with you. ~Hugs
