Hi

I have been epileptic since i hit my head on the driveway way back when i was 1.5 years old. I was having a tonic clonic seizure once every months to 9 months until January 2000. The next seizure i had wasnt long ago, on the 4th of January of this month. I lowered the dose of tegretol back in 2004 and stopped going the neurologist about 2009 since everything looked fine. It goes to show you cant get too comfortable with your epilepsy.

Hi DJKav, welcome to CWE!

I'm sorry to hear about the breakthrough seizure. Was there a particular stress that might have triggered it, or did it come entirely out of the blue? Will you be increasing your Tegretol dose, or are you in "wait-and-see" mode?

Best,
Nakamova

Hi Nakamova

Well my family was shocked from it so they took me to the hospital. There, my Tegretol was increased by 100 mg, but i was getting faint aurae so my GP increased it by another 100 mg. There previous week i was really stressed but i have stressful times before. But i was pale the night before and on the day but i went to gym on the Friday night and Saturday morning (which was a few hours before the major seizure).

Sorry to hear you had a break-through seizure after going so long seizure free. Hopefully, increasing your meds will stop them now for another upmteen years.

But like you said, one cannot get too comfortable with epilepsy! Words of wisdom...... everyone out there listening?

Sorry to hear about your breakthrough seizure. It can be such an emotional shocker especially if its been a while. Hang in there and ride it out. 14 years is a long time.
