I must be scratching them at night too.....while sleeping.. I still have no idea how i got a black eye that night..though

anyone, on meds ever have really easy bruises? im on tegretol 800 mg klnopin 1mg & (paxil for moodswings & anxiety around my ms pmdd)

Bruising and rashes could be a sign of reaction to your seizure meds. I would call your doc

put the words into a Google search Lorrie, you will be surprised as to what you will find.

Lorrie, I'm a bruiser too - I'm on Tegretol as well, if that's any use. I woke up the other day and found a beauty on my right wrist....it's as if I really grasped it with my left hand during the night - or maybe it's where I was tied down <grrrr> (THAT PART IS A JOKE !!)

My son has many blue marks on his body all the time, just lifting him can easy cause blue fingerprints on his arms, in his case this is caused by the ketogenic diet. Before he started this diet, he was on valporate for 3 years, which can cause bruising, especially when long term used.

I know valporate and the ketogenic diet both cause easy brusing. And Felbamate also can cause internal bleeding and brusing. I was told this has probably to do with a decreased absorption of vitamin K caused bij meds or diet.

Valporate can also produce... and a tendency to bleeding and bruising.

Valproate: weight gain, nausea, vomiting, hair loss, bruising, tremor.

Bruising and the ketogenic diet: evidence for diet-induced changes in platelet function.

Excessive bruising is a symptom noted by parents of some children treated with the ketogenic diet for epilepsy control, although this side effect is not reported in the literature. We evaluated our cohort of current and past diet-treated patients for symptoms of bruising or bleeding through chart review and prospective screening at clinic follow-up visits. A significant increase in bruising or other minor bleeding was reported and/or observed in 16 of 51 patients (31.4%). There were no differences in sex distribution or number of anticonvulsants used between patients with bruising/bleeding and those without this symptom, although the group with bruising/bleeding was significantly younger. No specific anticonvulsant was associated with bruising/bleeding. Six patients with diet-induced bruising/bleeding underwent an investigation for bleeding diathesis. Five of these patients had prolonged bleeding times and all had diminished responsiveness to various platelet aggregating agents, with no evidence of a release defect. The abnormalities all normalized in the 1 patient tested after ceasing the diet. No patients had serious hemorrhage. One patient had mild von Willebrand disease, which had been asymptomatic before diet initiation. Some patients were Stimate responsive, suggesting a treatment for more severe bouts of symptoms. These data suggest that a ketogenic diet-related bleeding tendency occurs in about one third of treated patients owing to preexisting factors defining susceptibility in combination with diet-induced depression of platelet responsiveness, possibly related to changes in platelet membrane lipid composition and/or concentration and resultant effects on function of membrane-embedded proteins. Patients on the diet undergoing anticoagulation or surgery should be evaluated carefully for symptoms of bleeding tendency.

Thanks for your replies everyone.... (Hey Tee's it was me in your room do still have my furry cuffs:pfft::banana:)

I know the itchy skin is from dial soap actually any soap with antibacterial properties makes my skin itch like crazy..... so Ive picked up some dove soap to see if that will help.... I have a doctors appointment coming up on the 31 & have to go to the heart center thats where the lab is here for blood work before my appointment....

maybe it is the atkins diet and the meds it looks like im not the only easy bruiser I thank god for having all you guys to talk to:) I looked it up on google and it does say reaction from tegretol is bruising but tegretol; dosnt hurt my kidneys and I feel better on tegretol than I did on any other E drug.... kinda tired on it but its not that bad..... &the itchy skin is a reaction to the soap i have been using.

maybe I need a multi vitamin..... something i havent been taking. aside from the vitamin d"
