I know this isnt Epilepsy related, but I wanted to see if anyone here has taken Biotin before? I started taking this about a month or so ago.... and the reason I started to take it was because I thought it would make my hair, skin and nails be healthier. Ive been battling acne for at least a month now. I seriously had no clue what the heck was going on! I thought maybe a change in hormones was the cause. So i went to my dr who does my yearly exams and brought it up to her. She put me on a low dosage birth control pill to help clear up the acne. Ive been taking that since May 2nd, and so far I've seen no improvement. Then today, for some strange reason, when I was taking my medications, I looked at all of them and why I thought this I dont know... what I told myself I wont take the biotin today. I was taking 1 tablet, 1000mcgs daily. Then out of the blue, I wash my face and still see my acne break outs... they are all over my chin area, in my "T Zone"..... its horriable! :( I wanted to look it up and Im finding alot of people say they have had really bad acne! So I wanted to check here to see if anyone has had this experience or not with taking Biotin? Im praying this is why Im having the acne break out. I havnt taken it today and I will stop taking it to see if this helps clear things up.

For me, Lamictal has been the cause of my acne. Dilantin caused it too. And certain foods (high-glycemic, dairy) seem to make it worse. I have taken Biotin on and off in the past, but I didn't notice any particular increase in the acne as result.

Biotin helps with the synthesis of fatty acids, and fatty acids are actually good for the skin and preventing acne because they have anti-inflammatory properties. So it doesn't make sense that biotin would cause acne. On the other hand, I have seen the anecdotal reports online, so... who knows? Maybe when the hair gets a bit oilier/longer that affects facial skin through proximity?

Im going to see how it goes. Today is the second day I havnt taken Biotin and Im just wondering what the heck could be causing this acne. I started taking the Biotin around 1-2 months ago. I wouldnt say quite two months, but inbetween then.. and its been around then that I started to see the acne appear. I saw my dr on April 23rd and asked her about it. Thats when she said to try a low dose of birth control pills, to see if that would help. She said it would, so I thought Id give it a try. Ive been on the birth control pill now since May 2. So for two weeks... and it hasnt gotten any better. I will see what comes about in the next week or so. Maybe I will notice a difference when Im not on the biotin... I dont know. All I know is that I want this crap to go away and stay away!

Definitely keep us posted. I hope stopping the biotin does the trick.

Thanks! I hope so too! I was so desperate last night, that I started googling what will work for home remedies on how to treat acne and found out that toothpaste does the trick! LOL I even tried it and to my suprise it did help clear up the acne! It made my skin feel less oily and I can tell a difference just from over night to today! I use a pill organizer for my medications and took out all the biotins! Im just praying that by stopping the biotin it will clear up my skin! I'll keep you posted! :)
