I just got out of the hospital yesterday after having 6 seizures within an hour. My wife told me today the paramedics were asking about what had been going on with me, especially if I was taking any drugs, mainly cocaine. Apparently the heart rate test they do will look the same for a heart attack and seizure as it would for a O.D. on cocaine. What I'd like to ask is, has anyone here had this type of thing, your heart causing a seizure, not your brain. Since all my tests for epilepsy have come back clear, although previously diagnosed, I'm starting to think maybe my heart is an avenue to check out. I'd sure like to know what's causing them, the meds I'm on aren't doing anything, and the restarting of my seizures line up with when I started getting chest pains and troubles breathing.

All seizures are in the brain & caused by neurons misfiring. I have no doubt that an arrhythmical heart can be a trigger for seizures though but not the "cause".

Also remember that your heart speeds up during a seizure. Was your heart being monitored while you were having one?

My wife said they hooked me up to their little machine when they got here so they got a reading while I was having a seizure, that's where the cocaine thing came from. Just before the seizure my heart went nuts.

I would think it was the seizure speeding up your heart. I've recently noticed that my seizures start when I get anxious or really start to shake at least one foot, as though I'm anxious. It's only recently I've started to think that this is a part of the seizure, not its trigger. I would also have no doubt that my heart speeds up as well just beforehand.

You know I'm constantly shaking my feet or legs, don't even notice it. In any case I'm getting annoyed with not knowing wth is going on with me.

Try to remember that EEGs (unless you've had some pretty serious procedures) are scalp electrodes. They can only detect so far.

Out of - I don't know how many at this point... a bazillion? EEGs - Including a video one - LOL - I've only had one, 72 hr one pick up my seizures. And I *always* have the stupid heart thing!

It took a lot of testing to figure out that it was my brain driving my heart and not just my heart futzing out on me. It was as if it hadn't occurred to anyone that both were part of an electrical system (durr...).

I sometimes fear for the future of medicine in that our body parts have been separated to such a degree, it doesn't occur to many of the "specialists" to put the symptoms together.
