Hi All,
I was wondering with those of us who have e,can be hypnotised? Now im pretty sure the answer is no,but i got told this a good few years back and probaly by a dubious source whom i cant recall.
But if the answer is yes, then surley for some people hypnotherapy could help, perhaps in helping people who find stress(etc) a trigger.Does anyone know of any studies or links out there that broach this subject?
Me personley dont think its a good idea, theres enough going on in our brains without introducing anything else, its just something i thought i would throw out there and see what responses came back.Thank You.

I"ve been hypnotized before, more to reduce stress & increase focus for school.

I don't think it helped my school or stress much but it definitely didn't have any adverse effects on my seizures (I was watching).

I have been hypnotized before too and it didn't have any affect on my seizures. I did it as a means to quick smoking (since the anti-smoking medications seem to have an adverse effect on anticonvulsant meds). It worked for a while until I started having seizures again and my doctor told me the smoking was helping keep me relaxed.

But as far as the hypnotizing I have never been told by any neurologist that it shouldn't be done. I think it would probably depend on your individual circumstance. Ask your doctor if you are unsure just to be on the safe side.

Thanks for the replys,no i dont plan to get hypnotized or anything,i was watching a tv programme about it and the idea popped into my head,it certainly wasnt a doc or nuero who told me we couldnt, though i think ill ask her out of cuirosity just to hear what she says. Thanks again Neil129

I started a thead on this about a year ago when they idea popped into my head.

I supposed that it may help with people whose seizures are psychogenic, or stress triggered. I don't think it would help with someone who has a physical cause for their seizures (head trauma, diabetes etc) because hypnotizing cannot physically change the body.

Yes Rae,thats where my main concern lay,for people who could use it for stress and phycogenic.I completley agree that it probaly wouldnt work for a head injury(etc).I was wondering might it have a negative effect on those with stress related seizures, but it doesnt seem to be the case with Epileric and Kimberly D,but i suppose every case is diffrent as we all know.

Yes, we CAN get hypnotized. No, I don't think it's a good idea to do so.

We have too much screwing with our psyche as it is. No need to screw things up even more. More variables equals more chances for something to go horribly wrong.
