Hi everyone,
I have a query and would be grateful for some feedback from you.
I have just started à new job that comes with à company car, or car allowance. sadly, just before i started job i had à seizure and now have a diagnosis of epilepsy so cannot drive. My colleagues either have the car or the allowance, plus 40p a mile, but, i am not receiving anything because i am not driving. The allowance is an extra £4,000 on top of salary. My Argument is that although a car or car allowance is to do company business, the employee Also gets the perk of being able to Use this to get to work and other personal activities.
I have to pay for trains and taxis. I have Managed to get Access to work agreed which is helpful. I feel i should be paid the same as other 'driving staff' i.e. the allowance and 40per mile and Use It as i please to do my work related tasks and whatever. I feel as if i am being discriminated against because i don't drive, but, i am getting about and doing the Job like other staff.
What does everyone think?
Does anyone know what the rules are on car allowances?
Many thanks for any feedback.
Julie
