I had my first seizure which occurred in December of 2011, and my father heard a loud bang. He heard me falling to the floor, and he had to damage the door to get to me since it was locked with a key lock. He saw me on the floor, unconscious, and he called 911 and I came back to and saw relatives, and paramedics were there and I refused to go with them, but went to the hospital with my relatives. They took me on back, and then they did a lot of tests and found nothing wrong, and the emergency physician said that it was probably syncope.
After that, I couldn't see a doctor since my father was complaining about the bill (had insurance). I continued to have seizures, and he brought up many excuses and trying to justify what I had. I then saw a cardiologist who said it was mainly fainting and thought it was dehydration. It took months after that, then finally I just had enough, and argued with him. This June, I was diagnosed with epilepsy, and at first my neurologist thought it was complex partial seizures.
I had an MRI which was clean, and EEG showed abnormalities which determined it was primary generalized seizures. He then prescribed Keppra XR, and I continued to have seizures once a month. He upped it to 3000mg, and it still continued and then he prescribed Lamictal and now I am to 200mg a day and haven't had a seizure since then, but it only has been two months. I hope it works though. What causes it? No idea, my neurologist said usually it's idiopathic but he assumes that it's in my DNA. He pretty much told me I would have it for life, and he did not think that there would be a cure within my life time. That was depressing, but I am getting off topic. I know I gave in extra information, thought this would help you though.
P.S. I am 22 years old
