My ds, 16, haS genralized epilepsy. He was diagnosed a year ago. Previously, he has had three seizure all within an hour of waking. Mayo Clinic diagnosed this as "tonic clonic upon wakening". His trigger is lack of sleep. He takes 1000 mg Keppra XR nightly. Night before last he did not sleep well even though he takes melatonin. The next morning was fine although he did not look well. I gave him his vitamins, which includes one Jigsaw Magnesium. He had a a seizure at 9:00 PM last night. I am wondering why the night seizure. Could the magnesium have possibly delayed the seizure? Any ideas???? I have not called the Mayo doctor yet, as I knew their answer is going to be to up meds to 1500 mg of Keppra XR. Please tell me your thoughts on this situation. It is greatly appreciated.

If lack of sleep is a trigger for him then not sleeping well the night before could have brought on the seizure.

Lack of sleep is a trigger for me. I may not get enough sleep one day and then could have a seizure sometime the next day.
