Hello everyone, first I wanna say that the simple fact of knowing that this community exists gives me a sense of not being alone and calmness.

I'll skip the whole story of my almost life-long relationship with epilepsy as that is not the point in this post.

My sister is the one suffering from this disease, she still has complex partial seizures and today, after three years, she had a generalized seizure and we don't know the reason.

It's important to mention that she drank 5 or 10 ml of a chlorophyll complex which includes chlorophyllin and copper, and we think this might have led to a copper toxicity and subsequently the seizure.

Do you know of any related experiences or have any suggestions?

Thank you!

She had a second generalized seizure just a few minutes ago, still trying to figure out what's happening :(

Update: She's sleeping and nothing has gone wrong again. Though I'm just super scared, I hate when this happens, it's very difficult for me to live with this.

I was about to post some links with information on chlorophyllin, copper and seizures but weren't able to do so, cause I'm restricted. If anyone is interested in them I can send them to a moderator for him/her to check them out.

Hi Brau and welcome to CWE,

Does your sister take any AED's? Was this the first generalized seizure? I know living with and witnessing seizures is very scary. I'm the one with seizures in my family.

Hello Cint,

She takes Keppra (2g's a day) and Vimpat (400 mg a day) and about a month ago she started taking 25 mg's of B complex to help her rage.
Her first seizure was almost two decades ago. And seizures have turned to be one of my biggest fears, if not the biggest, in my life.

Thanks for replying!

Hi Bruno --

The dosage your sister took was unlikely to be toxic, or a primary cause of her seizure. But I have a few questions:

Why was your sister taking the chlorophyll supplement, and did she take it more than once? As a supplement it hasn't been well-studied, and it's purported use is limited to controlling odor in people who suffer from incontinence, or have a colostomy bag. It may or may not help with things like flatulence or constipation. If she was taking it for any of the above, or to "cleanse" her system, there are better and more well-studied remedies to consider.

Hi Nakamova, she took it only once but didn't dissolve it in enough water, and apparently she missed her night meds.

She was taking it for cleansing, as a recent study shows she's got her levels of aluminum quite high.

Next time have her do any "cleansing" with her doctor's supervision. Most of the OTC cleansing supplements out there aren't particularly good for you...

She had two not very well disolved doses of the supplement.

Thanks for the advice, will certainly do. What other remedies were you talking about?

Did she talk with her doctor about having aluminum toxicity? He would most likely have prescribed deferoxamine mesylate if she had dangerous levels. Otherwise, all she would need to do is avoid any environmental or dietary sources of the aluminum. Aluminum toxicity is pretty rare unless someone has kidney problems.

She has an appointment with the neuro on tuesday. Will certainly discuss that.

I take chlorophyll for seizure control. I found my body doesn't absorb solid supplements very well, so when I started on the liquid plant supplement my partials decreased a lot. Only problem is, I have trouble swallowing the vile substance. It tastes like grass and has a horrible texture
