Wait, wait, wait, STOP[screeching brakes]: I thought even people with epilepsy still have the same basic rights as 'normal' people do! What?! and why the hell were you beaten & had to spend 4 days in jail? I'm sorry I have to pry, Barbara, but did you get arrested because you become violent during a seizure? And if you do, shouldn't your neurologist be contacted on the way to the ER? First, before I help you, do your best to leave as much of your bad ass, cynical attitude as possible at the CWE entrance. I know it's very, very hard, but please try. WE ARE HERE TO HELP AND SUPPORT YOU. Now, if you want to send a message privately, click on the name of the person you wish to send a message to. If you click on my name, you have several options: drag the pointed finger down to 'send a private message'; click & type a message. Do you wear some sort of medical braclet that says you have epilepsy? This would help make people understand what's going on with you and for the reason that it is.
Don't worry you'll find your way around the web site. If you have any problems, don't be afraid to ask. Someone is always there to help you (and that's not just with computer problems)!

If you're not sure where to go, try starting at the Main Forum Page. It says underneath the link to each "room" what it's for. You figured out to introduce yourself in the "foyer" so I have no doubt you'll navigate the rest of the site fantastically.
2 things that might make it easier for you are the "quick links" button at the top beside the "log out" button on the right. I use it often to find the most recently posted messages using "todays posts" option. Also beside that is the "Search" button that's great if there's anything specific you want to look up or read about.
Take your time & make yourself at home. Also, don't be shy to ask questions. The people here are very friendly.

If someone has mistaken a seizure for a violent rant, then certainly a MedicAlert bracelet is a great idea. There are a number of "threads" on this topic here, and quite a few of us wear them. If you've been detained for some reason, and your medication withheld, then that is another issue entirely, and I think this needs to be followed up with the authorities concerned. I'm sure there is someone here who will know the legalities, but I'm sure that's a breach of your human rights.
All up, an awful experience for you, and I'm sure one you don't want to repeat. Having been through it, I hope you're open to ideas to help you prevent it happening again.
This is a wonderful community, full of helpful people, boundless knowledge and great ideas. Please feel free to ask your questions. And as for the computer literacy thing - I'm on computers all day, but am not used to this format of blogging, so you're not alone in trying to work your way around the site.

Thanks.I have a medic alert bracelet but that does not help.They ignore it.I need to be able to take my brain out and show it to them.I used to carry around a copy of an abnormal eeg I had.The criminal charges were dropped along with the restraining order.I went to the dept of justice last time this happened to me.I filed a civil rights complaint.I never heard anymore about it.I guess I will need to file another complaint maybe a lawsuit for false arrest.El Dorado County has had a problem with the jail for decades.

Carrying a copy of the abnormal eeg result is a good idea. I carry copies of my abnormal scan results (CT, SPECT, MRI), but these are only good if they end up with medical personnel. Coppers don't know what they are looking at anyway.
I also carry a full list of my medications and when I should take them. I can mark next to the x's when I have taken them, so the medical staff know what medication I've taken that day (the hospitals I've been to for emergencies call it my personal medication chart and they love it). This would help in any situation, and the police could not argue they had no idea you were on medication, if you showed them this.
It does sound like you need to file another complaint, as four days without your medication is unacceptable. For that alone, the jail needs to be held accountable.

PS I should add that the scans mentioned above are for my temporal lobe atrophy (therefore cognitive problems), not E; if I had a copy of my EEG report I'd take that, too.

I don't know if this always happens at the same police dept or different ones, but could you get some sort of letter from your dr explaining that you have epliepsy and what your side effects are when you have a seizure and what needs to be done for you when you have one?
Actually go to the police dept and give them all the info that they need to realize this is what happens to you when you have a siezure. In general I think that most people, when they hear that you have epliepsy, assume that what happens to you when you have a seizure is that you are going to fall on the ground and start shaking like crazy. But there are several different types of seizures and people don't realize that.
Make sure you always have some sort of ID on you with your name and picture so they know who you are. Also make sure you have any other info that people might need to know - your meds and when you take them, dr name and phone number and a family member or friend that can be contacted.
Maybe get some sort of signed letter from the police dept that says they have the information and if for some reason you ended up there then they would know who you are and about you and what to do. That way if the wrong thing happens then you would have a better chance if you'd have to file some sort of law suite with them.

Its hard to prove seizures.A large percentage of people who have them have no real evidence besides maybe an abnormal eeg occasionally.I remember deputies standing over me screaming I was faking it.I really did not care.I was hoping I would die.They are so sadistic and that is not acceptable behavior any place but jail.It is understandable why people like that work there,they sure could not have a job anyplace else.It seems like when they hire people they allow all kinds of mental illness.Alot of things are part of the punishment.Air conditioning in the middle of winter and not enough clothing or blankets.Medication has to be dispensed by a nurse and only twice a day not the four times I take it.No pain meds,no thyroid meds.The reason for that is they can't trust their own employees to stay out of it.They were wanting my valium I came in with and joking about licking the bottle.They are really a sick bunch and I hate them.It took four days for them to decide there was not enough evidence to persecute me.In the meantime they did a lot of damage and I was sick for over 2 weeks after I got out.They kept harassing me on the phone and knocking on the door.I was screamed at and cussed at and accused of things I did not do.It wasn't that I forgot,it never happened.This is the third time I have been arrested for something I did not do and it was later dismissed but they have tortured me in the meantime.I have come to have no respect for law enforcement.The sheriff here is a jerk and his boys are out of control but he is rather proud of striking terror in the community.In there eyes everyone is a criminal EXCEPT the police.Ha ha.I know its worse in other cities but that does not make it ok here.Picking on kids and homeless people is a sport.I called an attorney in Sacramento who specialises in this and she refused to do anything and thats the same thing as giving them permission.I guess I don't have enough money or something.Its very depressing.

It made you smile?What kind of sense of humor might you have?I have another friend who seems does not know much about seizures despite being a medical assistant.I am not comparing you with her at all, maybe its one of your postichtal confusions.It was she who had me put in jail.Any idea how many times I have been "arrested" and nearly killed for seizure related behavior?I lost count along time ago.In 2004 I spent 4 days in a coma after my meds were taken because I was in jail for something I didn't do.Homicide by cop.Really, I don't worry about my personal safety when I know I am in gang territory until the police show up.

This line made me smile too, not the injustice and suffering you experienced, that sucked and I am sorry you had to experience it.

Not that I was belittling you, but I DO know how you feel--I've been in that position more than once when I've not been feeling well.
