My son just increased his Trileptal dosage for the first time in a year. Right before the increase, he went from no seizures to about 10 1 minute seizures during the day and night. Since the increase, two days ago, his seizures have increased but are only for 5 seconds. His Dr. said we have to wait a week to see what happens. Has anyone experienced this? Thank you!!
 
It sucks, but sometimes the meds can cause seizures, and the transition periods can be especially tricky. Unfortunately, both epilepsy and anti-seizure meds are still so poorly understood -- that's why all the doc can say is "wait-and-see". The fact that the seizures are shorter may be a sign that the med is kicking in to stop the symptoms after they start.

If your son's seizures don't improve at the new dose, or if they get worse, then Trileptal may not be the right med any more. I hope things get more stable soon.
