Can someone help clear something up for me? I keep seeing the word Consultant thrown around and I am wondering if this position is similar to a neurologist. If so, how are the same and different? Is a Consultant the terminology for Neurologist in Europe?

Thank you for any clarity you can bring to this.
Connie

Consultant is just shorthand for a specialist whom your GP or PCP has brought in to consult on your health situation. It could be consulting hematologist, or consulting orthopedist, or, (in the case of epilepsy) a consulting neurologist. Another term thrown around is Epileptologist, which is a neurologist who specializes in epilepsy. My neurologist doesn't call herself an epileptologist but she absically specializes in epilepsy too.

Bergoomay,

I think the word "Consultant" is used more frequently in Europe in reference to the dr.
My dr. is an epileptologist/neurologist. I also have diabetes and see an endocrinologist, but I don't refer to him as a consultant. To me, they are doctors.
