my neuologist told me they didnt work because of the seizure meds so i only use condoms. but now that im second guessing things they've told me in the past and researching things on my own and coming up with different answers than the ones they gave me, im wondering......... anybody elses neuologists tell them the same thinng? that birth control is ineffective when taking seizure meds?> and do you think that is true??

My understanding is that AED's don't render contraceptives useless but there is a higher rate of contraception failure when used with AED's.

It depends on the med -- the ones that are "enzyme-inducing" mess with contraception levels, the the other ones don't. For more info, and the list of which AEDs are suspect, see the link below:

Yes my gyno asked for my neruo to contact her as 'some' drugs interact with each other and make hormones and contraceptives less affective.

I am on Epilim and Levlen and i know those are OK but there are a lot of mixes that you need to check with your doc about.
