Hi,

I am new to the forum and am so happy I managed to find it. I am a 21y/o living with cortical Dysplasia. Fortunately I've only had three major seizures my whole life and have been on medication since I was about 7. Recently I haven't quite been feeling myself (headache, spacey, etc) and was curious about maybe having the lesion removed. Has anybody experienced this? What is the probability? I'm nervous when it comes down to it thinking about the risk. I really appreciate all the help and I hope everyone has a safe recovery.

Hi Brandley, welcome to CWE!

We've had at least one member diagnosed with cortical dysplasia, who also had successful surgery. (There may be others who will chime in). You can read a bit about her story here http://www.coping-with-epilepsy.com/forums/f41/lifes-changing-7-weeks-21012/ and here http://www.coping-with-epilepsy.com/forums/f41/epilepsy-brain-surgery-natashas-story-24310/

Cortical dysplasias can take a lot of different forms, and have many different prognoses, so you'll probably get the best info about surgical outcomes from your neuro or neurosurgeon.

Do you think your recent symptoms are definitely related to the lesion, or is there a chance that something else (medication? infection?) might be the cause?

Best,
Nakamova

Lately I have been going to the gym and lift and taking protein so I was thinking maybe the ingredients in the protein has to do something with it. I have gained a few pounds too and could be that my meds are ineffective. I'm not entirely sure.

Unless you've gained a lot of weight, that shouldn't affect your med dosage. People do change over time, though in their sensitivity to medication or to triggers. Some people are sensitive to ingredients in protein supplements, so you might want to take another look at the label, and/or see how you feel if you stop taking them. If you haven't already, you might want to check out this recent thread: http://www.coping-with-epilepsy.com/forums/f23/complex-partial-seizures-protein-shake-26058/

thank you so much! i just think its weird it has been about 8 years since my last one and all of a sudden I've been feeling out of it. Plus my neck/back has been in pain. I guess ill have to go to the doctor and get an MRI to have an idea what is going on
