Hey all :)

I've been having a bunch of medical issues for the past couple years, and no diagnosis yet (doctors keep giving up!), but recently, read some stuff about folks real life experiences with seizures...and it really caught my attention, as much of what they were describing sounded like stuff I've been experiencing for 5+ years! I remember once asking a GP about my experiences, and she kinda fobbed it all off and just said it was something about blood pressure - despite not taking my blood pressure, or doing any other kind of test (another GP did take my pressure and said it was completely normal, btw) :)

But yeah, it was kind of a 'whoa' when I read about this stuff as, I'll be completely honest, being pretty naive, when someone said 'seizure', I immediately thought to the stereotypical passed out and convulsing sort of thing. I had no idea there were different types. Just wondering, if I post my experience, if any of you knowledgeable folks think I should actually bring this up with my Doctor as a concern, or as a possible 'another symptom' to baffle the docs with? LOL

OK...I experience instances with severe dizziness where I'm standing, knees feel like they're gonna buckle underneath me, visual disturbances (fuzzy and light), weird ear sounds kinda like ringing, and this numb, tingly sensation in my arms/fingers/head...I can hear people around me, but trying to keep control of my body takes all my energy so i can't reply with more than a grunt or 'yeah'. once it was so bad, I managed to sit down (before I fell down), with my arms outstretched infront of me, my whole family was there, they said it looked like I was just sitting there motionless, but to me it felt like I was shaking uncontrollably. My GP just said it was 'getting up too fast' and something about blood pressure, but there's plenty of times I get up fast and it never happens (I have even tried recreating it many times!), and it's happened many times where I have deliberately taken my time to get up from sitting position?

There's also been 4-5 instances over the past year or so where my brain has completely shut-off in the space of a second. All but one of those times, I had just gotten into my car and turned the ignition on. Then I was immediately confused, like, where am I? What am I doing? I honestly have no idea what's happening at such times. Takes me a bit, then I realise I have to drive, so I go to turn the key but because it's already started, it makes that horrible screeching noise, which totally freaks me out because I have no idea where I am or what's going on. After a bit I realise the car's already on, and I have to put it in gear (then the confusion about clutch and gears ensues lol)...finally, (No idea how long it all takes, feels like it's all in slow motion to me) my brain starts 'clearing' and I'm able to drive off without problem - albeit quite freaked out about what's just happened.

Does any of this sound like seizures???

It could be a possibility. The only part that makes me think otherwise is that in the first scenario you are completely conscious of what's going on, but that doesn't rule out a seizure. Remember, I'm not a doctor. I've just been combing the internet about this stuff for the past month trying to figure out what's going on with my daughter.

If the doctor is so sure its your blood pressure, then ask them to do the test where they check you blood pressure lying down, sitting up, and then standing to see if there's a hypostatic reaction to your blood pressure. It only takes a few minutes and should rule out the blood pressure thing.

I am just like the one before me, I'm no Dr. and my seizures are not like what you are describing, that doesn't mean it is not a seizure. There are so many types of seizures.

Can you make an appt. with Neur.?

It would be good to start keeping a diary, listing anything and everything that happens. This will help you and any Dr. you go to.
Note any triggers that you notice.

Hey Bek! As above I am not a Dr either.lol I went 20yrs miss diagnosed. They told me they were panic attacks, and everyone I knew with panic attacks told me,"Dude, thats not a panic attack." As above the best thing to do is get to a neurologist, get all your testing done so things can be ruled in and out. -Jeff

It could very well be seizures. There are seizures where you remain concious through out them, they are call simple partial seizures. You dont lose full consiousness and can still hear people, see what is going on, etc. For me, I have those, but I cant respond to them due to the overwhelming feelings of the seizure that is taking place at the time. I need to wait til its over. The only difference for me, is that after the seizure is over, Im very tired and my head is killing me. Do you have anything like that happen after this occurs?

Thanks for the replies :)

Yeah, momof3boys, It was the description of partial seizures which grabbed my attention, and yes, I am pretty darn tired afterwards. My head really hurts while *whatever it is* is going on, kinda like a migraine deep inside my head, and is rather tender afterwards.

I'm thinking I'm gonna have to bring it up with my doctor again...and considering all the other medical stuff going on, beg to see some kind of specialist...and hopefully this one won't just give up on me LOL Guess I'm kinda nervous about doctors these days, seems they're happy enough to just give-up on diagnoses when it gets difficult lol

I appreciate your responses :) Thank you :)

Hi Bekaki777, and welcome to CWE!

I agree with the others, what you describe sounds like partial seizures. I've experienced that sensation that feels like someone has flipped the ON/OFF switch in your brain. Definitely bring it up with your doctor and ask to be referred to a neurologist, ideally an epileptologist. Unfortunately, partial seizures can sometimes be hard to diagnose via EEG (they are tad elusive in that way), so you'd be best served by a doctor with a lot of experience with seizures.

Best,
Nakamova

Ahh, thanks Nakamova :) Yeah, I've actually tried recreating them - considering one doc said it was just a blood pressure thing when I get up, but to no avail! Thanks, will definitely have to get a little forceful as to seeing a specialist :)
